Winch Centered between Fram rails?

I've pulled the Ramsey winch from the front of my truck to rebuild the winch, replace the winch mounts and finish the bumper. While mocking up the new mounts, I noticed the winch wasn't centered, its shifted toward the drivers side by a few inches. Ostensibly to minimize the amount of hacking the installer had to do 48 years ago. Does this matter? Since the cable travels across the width of the drum, would only be pulling from the center once during each layer. The winch originally did not have a fair lead, my new bumper will have a roller fair lead integrated into it. Is the winch/drum centered on other members trucks?

As long as the center line of the truck passes through a portion of the drum area you should be fine. Yes closer to center the better though.

If its close its good enough. I wouldn't worry about it. That's from my 40 years using PTO and Electric as well as Hydraulic winches. :thinking :thinking :2cents :thinking :thinking

Should be fine. Mine is pedestal mounted in the bed, and is a dual cable unit off a MS Gulf trawler.

Awesome guys thanks for the info. And to seal the deal, this '64 W30 clearly has the factory Braden winch mounted way off center.
