Hi everyone , I picked up this 1970 W300 on a trade for a dump box I had , I've wanted a power wagon for a long time , never thought I'd ever own a W300 but now I do , I'm really happy , It's been sitting for a long time ,I'm told it ran when parked , I plan on restoring it ,It's an old US forest service truck LA 318 2brl , 435, 205 with 5:86 dana 70's I think trac loc . does anyone know how to decipher vin plate ,I'll post some pics.

That looks like a pretty cool truck.

It looks like you were able to make out most of the information on the VIN plate.
The equipment at the bottom was special ordered. ... limited slip rear axle, heavy duty cooling (notice the 2 slots under the grille, normally 383 trucks with A/C were the only ones the have those), vacuum tank, radio suppression, disc wheels and T/C lock (unknown)

This was from another thread but pertains to this truck as well. Some sentences will be out of context but may help in determining what T/C stands for.
The 71 mentioned above also had Lock-NT3011. It didn't say T/C. The funny thing is that the older truck SERTs had T/C lock and lock right before tire carrier in sequence. The things I can think of would be tranfer case, traction control and tire carrier. I'm pretty sure all the transfer cases would have been the same and all would have had a locked position.

Check with Bud Thorp [aka PowerWagon54] on the steering box. He rebuilds the Saginaw boxes. :idea

The stock box for this would have been the 9' Utiline box. They're kind of tough to
locate these days.....

Cool truck- saw that on CL a while back! I have the 1969 version of your truck, only heavily modified by a previous owner LOL! Have some spare parts and a few local-ish connections as well if you need anything. Welcome!

Bed found!

Post by NewcastleHoward »

Go to the new post on the for sale by member part of the forum. the 69' W-300 for sale in Oregon has a spare bed. Probably cheap he only wants 2,500 for his truck.
