Changing Pumpkin's front and rear?

Post by CMR70D3 »

I'm changing from 4.10's to 3.55's in My 70' W100. Do the axels have to be changed also, and what seals should I be ready to replace? I'm the first to say I'm not a mechanic. Is the gear on the axels different?

First off if you admit not being a mechanic why are you going to do a gear swap. Back end just requires re n reing a pumpkin with correct gears in it already, But front is very involved and not something to do haphazardly. Painful setting up procedure particularly if you do not have the proper tools and experience.

Kim, I have a mechanic that will be doing the work. I'm just trying to see what was involed with the change. The front 4.10 have something broke inside, will know more this weekend. I have a 71' with 3.55's kind of would like those better also, it's a complete drivetrain and was going to just swap out the pumpkin's if it could be done with less effort the swapping both whole axel's. So, can I just change out the rear-end pumpkin and axel's and the whole front-end axel? What would be the right way?
Thanks,
Chris

If you have a donor then swap the rear axle pumpkin and complete front axle.
