NP420 needs rebuild. Should I just go w/NP435?

Post by NewcastleHoward »

I have a 64' W200 that needs a new transmission. I have a 73' NP-435, but it's 4" longer than my NP-420. Did the mid 60's trucks that came from the factory with NP-435's have a shorter tail shaft set up or do I need a shorter driveshaft in between my transfer case? What would you guys do?

Does the '73 NP435 have a 23 spline input shaft and a tail shaft mount on it?
Your NP420 will have a 10 spline input shaft. :study

You can't use that 23 spline input shaft with the older hydraulic
clutch clutch components. I'm not sure that you can swap out
input shafts.... Perhaps someone else can chime in on that. :Thumbsup

Does anyone in Northern CA have either a good 420 or 435 for a PW?
