Sealing up the Twin Sticks

In a previous post there were questions as to how d the transfer case shifters could be sealed.
I thought about it and this is what I came up with.

I cut up an old inner tube from a log skidder. They are about 1/8" thick, make it about 2" longer and 2" wider than the slot in the floor. Cut it down the center the same length as the slot. Next make a frame out of sheet metal, the rubber will need to be forced up under the frame on each side. This will force it to overlap in the center thus the seal.

I had a old boot from a floor shift so I used it for the tranny shifter. I screwed the frames down with sheet metal screws.

I wound up using a piece of an old "ensolite" sleeping pad like the military uses and the cut a piece of 1/4" Aluminum diamond plate to hold it in place. The 'ensolite' is about 1/2" thick and even helps to keep the noise down as well as the wind and water out!

Those are some good ideas. Sure beats looking at the ground.
