factory PS question

Post by jimmy »

I removed a Factory system from a 71 camper special 2wd.
Will it bolt on to a power wagon? Is the drag link the same length? Tapper eyes same size? Is the pitman arm the same from the 2WD steering box Vs. 4wd?
I have the System for sale and am being asked the question.
Thanks

Thinking it won't swap because for some reason thinking the drag link for the 4wd model is in front of the axle whereas it is behind the axle in the 2wd models. Also thinking the steering boxes are different and located in different positions between the two models.

Nope. Drag links are behind the axle on D's and W's. W's link is basically straight while the D's link is bent some. Steering box is in same location on both.

I can double check, but I believe the Pitman arms are different.
Also, the tie rod on the 2wd 100/200 is behind the axle whereas
the tie rod on the Ws are in front of the axle. This would likely
pose an issue for the hydraulic ram. :thinking On the 2wd P/S
systems, there were trapered shims between the axle and leaf
springs as well..... Lots of "stuff" to be aware of..... :study :pale
