bell housing
bell housing
So I am on the brink of moving my 67 d-100, 318,np 435, hydralic cluctch cab bed engine and bellhousing onto my 1970 w100 318 435 mechanical clutch.
Will the 67 hydralic bell have the same thickness as the mechanical meaning the trans tailshaft will land on the crossmember or will I have to move crossmembers around?
Any other tips would be great as this is my first go at such a mission.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: bell housing
The hydro bell is @ 8" deep. The manual bell is @ 7 1/4" deep. These are small block bells.
As cheep as these trannys are it makes sense to stick with a 69-93 np 435 or 445.
Using a pre 69 tranny in a 69+ truck is problematic...

Re: bell housing
I want to use the np435 from the 1970 mecanical clutch truck connected to the 1967 hydro bell. Will that difference in depth be a problem do you think?
Re: bell housing
Ok now I get it. You are useing the bell ,flywheel, clutch and starter from your 67 in your 70 frame .You are also useing the 67 body.
It should work if both transmissions are wide ratio. Then you can swap the yoke and input from the 67 tranny into the 70 tranny.
If the 67 tranny is a close ratio,it will have a ball bearing input bearing, and different yoke than the tapered roller input of the wide ratio 435,not to mention gear count. As far as I know, there was no close ratio 435 in 1970.If you wanted a close ratio 4 speed in 70 you got a np 445.

Re: bell housing
The input shaft stick out for the hydraulic bell is longer than the one for the mechanical bell.
Re: bell housing
I'm lost. Does this mean The 1970 w-100 transmission will not work on the 1967 d-100 bell house?

Now I get it.
So if both the 67 and 70 np 435s are the granny gear 1st gear I can swap input shaft?
Sorry if I am asking thick questions that have been answered I,m about like a fourth grader on this stuff.
Does close ratio mean granny gear?
Also would it be possible to cut the too long shaft on the 70 shaft to fit the 67 hydralic bell?
