1968 D200 Power Wagon $8700.00 ?????

Post by 5628 »

I'm presently over seas and looking to buy a vehicle when I return in July.
I found this Power Wagon in SD for $8700.00 www.frankmanmotors.com/show.aspx?vid=1773585

Assuming that everything you see and read is true,is this a reasonable price?
Please take a look if you can and give me your opinion.
I'd like to have something when I arrive home to be able to get around.
Thanks alot.
God bless America!!!!

NO!

Ok, it looked pretty nice in the first 4 pictures, but then they go into detail.

Here are a few things that I notice in the first 2 minutes of browsing pictures:
Overspray on the data plate
Incorrect arm rests
random zip ties showing under dash
wiring is most likely a mess
dash paint is nasty looking with ugly filled holes
aftermarket switch to the right of the headlight switch/brake light
aftermarket speaker
blind spot behind 5 gallon tac
poor fitting rubber floor mat
major orange peel in paint
50's ram hood ornament
pinhole in side of cowl
chipped paint under mirror
aftermarket fuel cap
inside of bed is mashed up, thin layer of spray liner and painted over dents in bed sides
aftermarket side marker lights
under hood looks awful, ie wiring, bolts in rubber lines, plumbing style heater valve, universal upper radiator hose
bolt on battery cable end fix
overspray around hood hinges
underside lip of front hood edge is painted white
painted over radiator warning sticker
grille paint chipped up

Oh, and there are absolutely no pictures of any areas that are known for rust in this era of truck

This looks like a flip and will most likely break down :pale

Wally,
Wow,thanks.
I need a four wheel drive vehicle and I don't want to buy what every body else has.
I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to be a lamb to slaughter either.
I'm under some pressure to have something when I return to the States, but obviously this is not the vehicle.
I'll keep looking and maybe I'll just have to wait until I get back.
Thank you very much for taking the time and making the effort to keep me from stepping on my %^$)**.
Thanks again
David Fahey

I guess it depends on how picky you are. Someof the things Wally mentioned are still functional but not to his tastes.

It's hard to value these old trucks sometimes. They are worth what some one is willing to pay. Personally, I would not pay that much for that truck. I've seen much nicer ones for much less money. My suggestion is to keep looking.

I was critiquing this truck based on the price. Basically, if you are going to spend $8700 on a truck, it damn well better be full of NOS parts and perfectly painted.

Otherwise, If i were you, I would look for a truck on the west coast that has not been hacked and have it shipped to your state. :Thumbsup Good luck with finding your truck, I hope it will be a Sweptline!

I'm in agreement. I spend about 9 years taking my time to do a REALLY good(amateur) job on a truck, and spent about $7K on it, but the truth is that these old trucks are only worth about $3-4K in decent shape.

Like previously stated, it doesn't show any of the typical problem areas either. For that money, you would be better off to just buy a basket case for $300 or so and then throw in a nice crate engine and upgrade the brakes, steering, etc. You would have a better truck, and probably for cheaper.

Nice bench seat :Thumbsup :Thumbsup

Looks decent but I think I see some
small holes in the cowl area just above
the fenders. :thinking $8700 would buy
a really nice Power Wagon and, likely,
also pay for the freight to your door.

I would not pay more than $3000 maybe $3500 for that truck. I would save my money until you get back then do what I call "driving for dogs", it's basically just mindlessly driving around back roads and checking out the crap in people's back yards. In fairly short order you should run across something you can't live without, stop by, get to know someone and make them an offer and its way more fun than internet shopping.

Yep when ever Im in the big city and have time to kill I just cruise down the back alleys. Be surprised how much cool stuff you can see. Spotted 3 sweptlines in one day all within 2 blocks.

In some parts of the country you aren't going to find much by driving around, or what you do find might be very rusty.
