67 d-100 getting 70 w-100 running gear

Post by Jim100 »

The motor and body of my 70 w-100 (318, np 435, np 205) are done. I want to remove the 4x4 parts and place them on 67 d-100. I know I will replace the clutch but will the flywheel from the d-100 work? Should I remove it and have it machined?
I plan to swap the axles and springs as a heavy awkward unit. The springs should bolt right up no?
Yell if I am missing anything.
Thanks as always.

If you're building up the 4x4 on the '67 frame, you would
use the flywheel from the '67 318 engine. All of the clutch
components [disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing] need
to be sourced for a hydraulic clutch [pre-'69] application.
The NP435 from your later W100 will be a 23 spline. The
pre-'69 NP435 would be a 10 spline. Stay with the bell
housing from a hydraulic clutch truck.

Thanks, good to hear about using the hydralic system.
Sorry to beat a dead mule with this project. I have read nearly all like treads. It is nice to get a updated personal answer!
So if the springs can be adjusted with that block in the back and maybe a short leaf in the front, is it easier to then just swap axels at the u-bolts?
Messing with those spring end bolts looks like it can be a struggle and all the bushings on both trucks are good.
Thanks again.
