4sd to 727

guys I need alittle help

I think I found a big block 727 short shaft W/ yoke for my 69' powerwagon that came out of a 79' motor home.

The yoke is missing from the back of the 727 trany.

Will the yoke on the back of my 435 work on the 727? If not were do I find the correct yoke?

What else do I need other than a shifter, flex plate, and tourque converter?

You can still get the yokes from Spicer. I have a 71 Dodge w200 and I wanted to upgrade all my shafts, Altogether I spent like $1500 on driveshafts! However I found that Spicer has a bigger yoke that fits the 727, its a 1410 which is used on Dana 70/80s. I did that now I won't have to ever worry about breaking anything If you or anyone is interested in getting those yokes, better do so now because its listed on Spicer's slow movers list and after a year or so if they don't sell enough they will discontinue it.

no but seriously...make me an offer and you might just have this thing for close to shipping cost...came out of a 33,000 mile motorhome, 1972 IIRC

Thanx, I There is alot done to it 340 stall converter, raybestos stage 1 clutches, carbon fiber front band, kevlar rear band, 3.8 arm, trick servos, 4 pinion plantaries, TF2 shift kit, and bolt in sprag. I also got a deeper pan with a drain plug that got back ordered so had to put that on later.

Thanks for this thread, It lead me to this tranny I bought back in DEC. Just picked it up last weekend. Putting it in my 70'W100 with a 383 out of my 71'D100. Thanks for the info guys

I just got my 727 back from Jeff (oregondodgeboy) to slap behind my 440. The 4 spd was too much work. The nice thing about the motorhome was that it came with a deep, cooling tube pan. I am open to any and all suggestions for these trannys.

The Four speed was a terrible shifting thing, It was noisy, and most of all..... It made drinking my coffee on the way to work tuff . 80% of the driving I do is around town, shifting all the time. My 1st was not a granny and not sincronized. Never failed I was hitting stop lights wrong as hard as I tried.
My 3.54 and 33" tall tires just about force a compleat stop first gear restart. Second gear rolling start really lugged. It just shifted so poorly, even after the rebuild.

My wife will drive Sasquatch now, The first thing she noticed was the truck is smother and quiter.

If I was playng in the hills or on a farm I may not have ever changed it. My truck is just a pavement pounder.

I went with a mild shift kit,cooler, and a stock converter.
One more Item I learned, I couldn't find a doner truck with a automatic, I built my own and also tried several doner rigs for kick down linkage. I couldn't get anything to work with out hitting the fire wall. I finally found a Dart that had kick down linkage that pivots at the back of the engine block and then pivots under the floor. I don't know about small blocks but a big block just about has to have the pivot style kick down.

I have two fly wheels 1interanl balanced 1 external balanced, a good clutch and pressure plate if any one wants them?

Yeah, I was asking you. Do you have pictures of the linkage/shifter setup? Also, please PM me about the ext balance flywheel. Maybe my 4 spd dream isn't over yet...

You can have the fly wheel if you want it. I'll throw in the clutch and pressure plate if you want them also.

The short shafts I have seen all had bolt-on yokes.

I don't know if they come both ways or not.

I used a bolt on rear yoke. The factory 69' u joints were the same size as the yoke that was on the late 70's 727 I used.
