Ramcharger parts on PWs

Post by centralwildcat »

has anyone used 74-80 parts on their PW? I could get the complete running gear from a 74-80 style ramcharger for $200. I was thinking that since the running gear is a BB, I could mate up my 383/727 combo onto the RCs T-case...anyone done this? Heard about it? Mattc :salut

Essentially all a Ramcharger is is a short wheelbased PW with a roof. Mechanically same.

Ok, just want to make sure I am following this correctly. You have a 66PW 383/727 with divorced NP201 & you are looking to get a 74-80 RC that is BB? If both are big blocks then that makes it a whole lot simpler. The RC will have a married NP203 full-time t-case. You can put the RC drivetrain in your truck (remove your t-case) with driveshaft & crossmember modifications, but your front hubs will have to be locked in at all times for the vehicle to drive. If any part (wheel) of a full-time system is disconnected (wheel off ground/on ice or hub unlocked) then the truck won't drive unless shifted into Hi or Lo LOC.

Is your E-brake still on the 201 t-case? 203 won't have one.

Sorry for the confusion...I have a 66 PW with a SB set up now....I'm looking at a RC drive train with a BB set-up to put under my 69 CC D200. I've been thinking about how it would be nice to have a tcase/727 that could mount up to my BB 69....since all I have is the 66's SB set-up now... so I thought that I could use the tcase/727/drive lines, etc... to put under my 69 CC. Also finding the parts for the NP 201 hasn't been easy, I thought parts for the 74-80 RC's 4x4 components would be more readily available. Hope that helps, mattc

If your 69 CC is BB, then yes the RC 727/203 will work. the driveshafts won't be right lenght. What are you going to use for axles, particularly the front? The RC axles are 1/2 ton 5-lug. Which engine are you planning on, the one already in the 69CC or the one from the RC? You'll need crossmembers & such from the RC. You could use the axles from the 66 PW, they should be 8 lug whether W100 or W200, only springs & WB's differed between the two back then, shared common 8 lug axles.

The 727/203 was used 75-80. That was the only configuration offered in the Dodge 5/4ton M880 series military trucks, but all were small blocks. Most Dodge 4x4s from 72 til late 80's were autos, but Big blocks were only offered during the 203 fulltime yrs. (not counting back to the sweptline 61-71 era).

but your front hubs will have to be locked in at all times for the vehicle to drive
all you have to do is shift the tcase in 4loc and you are good to go... front driveshaft or not.

still not a very good setup.
