W500 PTO
I'm currently shopping around for a W500 powerwagon, and was curious about how difficult it is to find a PTO for these trucks. Is this a wrecking yard find, or are they plentiful enough to come up on forums like this one periodically? A few of the trucks I've looked at don't have PTO's, and I would eventually like to add a winch, and maybe a dump flatbed. Any help, and advice is much appreciated. Derek.

Re: W500 PTO
Well I believe the t-case & both types of trannys usually found in W500s were available with PTO, but not necessarily in the actual W500 itself. I think the T-case is a Rockwell, The trannys are usually New Process. In other words I wouldn't limit my looking only to Dodge W500s for parts, but any large vehicle with similar components. The W500 wrecker f/s in Mass on Joe's PW site I believe has all the PTO stuff intact. Big Internationals shared some drivetrain parts with the W500 too.

Re: W500 PTO
IF the truck has the NP 541 5 speed the PTOs are like hens teeth. somebody over on the Power Wagon forum was looking for a long time and finally found one. Jerry I think was who. Anyway, if you have the NP420 or NP435 then PTO is no problem. go to job rated .com and email dave.

Re: W500 PTO
If you are in need of a PTO, I have the original NP435 4 speed with the Chelsea PTO unit from my 71 D400. I am looking to seel them as I upgraded to a modern 5 speed. Feel free to email me at cwcisram@comcast.net or call my shop at 412-749-8890.
