Any one Ever Try to Make a 6X6 Power Wagon

Post by caseman »

Has any body ever tryed to build a power wagon in to a Tandem Rear Axal,Like a 6X6,so that both axals Drive, like a tractor trailer, where both axals can be locked together for better pulling, for use with gooseneck trailer pulling,I know there are kits that will do this but the rear axal does not drive, most are air ride set ups !I have all the parts to made this work I think ??

Taht yellow one is so friggin nice. up here in WA there is a similar one that was built many years ago and is powered by a 392 HEMI. Has a lengthened first series 4 pocket bed.I saw it for sale up in the San Juans a while back.

CAseman, I have a rear frame section with suspension from a 6x6 dodge we parted out. you could use 70s ford van Dana 70 rear axle for the offset side and a centered 70 for the forward rear axle. it is rated at 1.5 tons and in good shape. any interest?

I had kind of kicked around an idea along the same lines for a while for a twin screw D300. My idea was offsetting the diffs as mentioned above using a modified NP203 transfer case for an interaxle differential. I never did get around to checking the feasability of modifying a 203 so that both inputs came out the rear, and one would have to figure the driveshaft angles to make sure that the articulation wouldn't overdo the short driveshaft required if you mounted a carrier bearing on the front dif.
I've seen a lot of tag axle setups, but tire wear and driveabilty issues can pop up if you aren't running loaded a good portion of the time.

I have always wanted to make one only with dually axels in the rear, I think that will be too cool!
