W100 with factory spicer 60?

Post by 65alive »

Hey guys,

I picked up a parts truck, I haven't run the #'s yet but it looks like a '64/early'65 W-100. It's a short box with 8 lug axles and looks like it has been "customized" 1/2 a dozen time using the bailing wire approach. I was out looking at it the other day and noticed something unusual. The door tag lists it as coming from the factory as a W-100 with the short bed wheel base and a spicer 60 rear axle (looks like a 44 up front). I almost fell over. I had always assumed that someone had swapped axles with a W-200. I have never seen a 1/2 ton truck with a stock spicer 60, let alone a short bed with that option. If anyone has ever seen this I'd be interested to know about it.

Thanks

Our W100's (1962 and 1965) have the Dana 44 front and Dana/Spicer 60 rear with 4.10 gears.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm more into the 2 wheel sweplines, so I'm not real familiar with the 4x4 stuff.

Since nobody specifically mentioned it I will. All 61-68 W100s were shortbeds with 8 lug axles. All the W200 regular cab trucks were longbeds with the same axles.

John, my red truck looks to have had the same type plow as your W100. Does yours have a cable controlled Mity electric/hydraulic pump? what brand blade is it?

Is that true? You couldn't get a 61-68 W100 long bed? You could get a D100 long bed for sure.

Correct. The W100 from '61-'68 was 114" in wheelbase and had the DANA 60 rear and DANA 44 front.
I am not sure whether or not the large knuckle 44 front was an option. :study .... I'd only be guessing.

Doug,
I believe my plow is a Western. The hydraulics are someone's home made contraption... lever operated.
