was 62 powerwagon 3/4 ton 4x4 now 4X2

Looking at the possible purchase of a 62 power wagon and I had first noticed that the truck has both diffs as a 4X4 should but upon closer inspection it was changed to 4X2 later in its life.

Real question: what is the easiest transmission and transfer case to add to get it back to a 4X4. It has the 383 engine in it. Thanks for any help

What transmission does it have in it now? Is there
still a hangar for the transfer case riveted to the
frame? Will you be using the transfer case parking
brake drum? If the 383 has a manual tranny, is it
a hydraulic clutch set up? The original manual set
up would've been hydraulic in '62. Let us know a bit
more about what drivetrain is in it now and we'll

Hello again here is what is known:

Hanger is still there

Prob use the old leave it in gear type of parking method.

Is has the four speed manual transmission with the hydraulic clutch.

Your '62 would've been equipped with the twin-stick
NP t-case. It would have had the parking brake on the
t-case so if you plan on putting the truck on the
road and your state requires emergency brakes, you'll
have to figure this out. Do you know if the tranny is
original to the 4x4 frame? Look on the data tag in
your driver's side door jam and see if it lists an
NP420 or NP435. Also, you'll have to confirm that the
gears in the front & rear axles are of the correct
ratio[i.e. 4:09 front/4:10 rear, etc..]. If the
ratios aren't correct, you'll destroy your dirve
train. You'll need to locate drive shafts for the
conversion if they didn't come with the truck when
you bought it. You'll need the same size tires on
all 4 corners too. Keep the information coming. [Do
you have access to the original t-case???]
