Rick. You just painted your mailbox mopar engine blue and silver. Why would you want to put a piece of junk Chitty part on your Dodge? Engine answer on your other post. :salut

Rick,
It will fit, but you'll need to come up with some extra stuff. Heres an "off the hip" list.

Bigblock motormount setup ($10-$50 depending on where you find them)

Radiator and hoses ($100-$450 depending on where you find them)

Big block bell housing (This could run as high as $500+) HARD TO FIND

That's the big stuff. Others will chime in here on more of the needed list.

It would be made by Dana-Spicer not GM. Besides, a Dana 60 is a Dana 60.

You might need a different U-joint but I think it would be a pretty simple swap. The spring pad spacing may be different too, not sure though. Of course you will need to find a gear ratio that matches the rear axle.

The 318 that you have can be pumped up by adding the # P4452759, P4452757, P4452755 or P4452782 MoPar Cam Assembly, the late issued #302 318 cubed swirl port heads and an 1976 or newer 318 factory four barrel manifold. Your 1969 318 was rated at the flywheel with the engine spinning without any hang ons. The E46 Coded 318's ( as mentioned above ) with all the goodies is rated at 245 hp using the new system ( or at about 275 to 300 hp using the old way of rating ).

If you have a set of "smog era" heads with the little air port just below the exhaust post, ... tap them and insert little allen head screws in them.

Measure the diam of the alernator pulley. Then make sure it is the same large diam as the A/C used version ( car, van, truck ).

Look for the 20" diam seven paddle fan assembly that is used on 1974 and newer MoPars, instead of what you now have. The 20" diam uses less engery from the engine, is quieter than the 18" seven blade units and is referred to by MoPar as an HD item.

Oh yeh, this is an improvement using the 1969 exhaust manifolds that you now have.

( New boxes cost money !!! )

I just bought a 1871-1974 360 la motor and have j heads on it for $750.00 (in the crate reman).I will rebuild and stroke the 318 at a later date. Thanks for the ideas on the rebuild. If you have any ideas about the 360 I could use them as of right now without replacing the pistons for a set of flat tops I am going to put performance heads and intake along with a mild 0 to 5500 rpm cam from edelbrock and use a holly 670 avenger truck carb and tti headers.

Hola Rick

For an very healthy 360, do just about every thing as the 318. The same cam, the same pulley's, the same fan. All say the casting of 360 heads that end with # 308 are the best carb'd heads.

The oversized/large cfm carb that you have for the 318 will help the 360 even better.

The first series ( 1974 or older ) 360 truck or van center dump exhaust manifolds that have the "dog leg" port design will bolt to the 318 rectangle ported head and of course the 360. If you use the inside same diam of the manifolds to the rear ( aka duals ), it will please you in the performance that it has from idle to red line. These bolt on and not to worry if they fit correctly exhaust manifolds may cost ten dollars at the local pick & pull.

The one dollar pick & pull dip stick and tube from any 318 or 360 van will fit your truck. Since they are arc'd to the front, they sure are easy to you over the short straight up truck or car style.

440 in a 318 Swept

Post by frankyb »

My 66 W200 originally had a 318/NP435. It now has a 440 with a 727 auto. It screams!! The 727B's are pretty common and cheap to pick up.

You can do a lot with the 318/360's ... I like the 440 though!!
