Not a Swepty, but dream truck

Post by hd4tools »

Well, I lucked out and found very close to my dream truck. Growing up I was a huge fan of the Emergency TV show. (Plenty of Sweptys in the show) It pushed me into the fire service and while I happened upon close to my dream truck. It's not quite the same, but in some ways it's even better

Unfortunatly, buying this causes me to have one too many in the fleet and I will have to sell my 70 D200... but this is so cool!

Some people's dream is an A12 car or Hemicuda, mine is a Dodge Fire Truck. It's a 77 W400. 440 Auto, full time 4WD with 4.88 gears. Haven't tried pumping with it yet, the guy is letting me store it at his place til spring.

He's only letting me keep it there til spring. plus it's 4 hours away, so not really convenient for long term.

The "Hero Car" was a 72 D300 with a LAcoFD custom utility box on it, put in the pilot episode they had a sweptline in several scenes. They also had a bunch of stock footage that got reused in later episodes that had the sweptline in it. Emergency's production team had a great relationship with the LA County Fire Department and utilized a large number of actual Department equipment for fire scenes. Since the Department often offered up reserve squads and other rigs, you do see a lot of older trucks show up.

Interesting bit of trivia, after the show ended, Universal donated both the engine and the squad to the Department. and both became active fleet rigs. Imagine being in a car accident or at a fire and the "TV" rigs show up!

Both MEtv and Cozi tv (oldies stations) still run reruns 6 days a week. It's still my favorite show

Great looking rig. :Thumbsup A friend of mine bought pretty much the same truck
you did a few years back. It was "retired" from a local FD. He had the frame shortened
to accept a Lifestyle 6' box. He converted the rear axle to SRW and "softened" the suspension
by revising the spring packs. He has the LA360/727/NP205 in his. :clap

You may not have known, but your '77 is a Sweptline, just the updated body style. See the page about the 1977 Dodge truck models at https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/im ... s_0015.jpg

Interesting, it was built as a cab and chassis, so I don't know if those pics apply. But I'll go with it.
