I learned how to drive on a 64 d 400 with a 5 speed 2 speed. I even took my first wife on a date in it. I would say it was my daily but dad would only let me drive it a few days a week.
That truck was still hauling blacktop until 10 years ago.

I did for 30 years, same one, until I took it off for resto. Life kinda got in the way. Started back in on it about a month ago, then, last week, we learned my wife has cancer. I’ve shifted to scavenge mode. Floor pans will be fabricated, I’ve got quite a bit I’d sheet metal, cutters and a welder. The budget will be tight, even though my wife says do it, I’ll get by on the cheap. I tend to over build on all my projects, so this will be something else.
I’m doing a disc brake conversion, A833 4 Speed behind my 225, custom exhaust, Offy 4 bbl intake set up with a 2 bbl. New seats, relocating the fuel tank. I won’t be having to buy that much, really. Biggest problem will be time. I’m retired, but with my wife’s chemo and possible radiation treatments, not to mention my appointments for my disability claim, time is going to be at a premium. My impairments (bad disc, arthritis and screwed up heart) will make this a prolonged, slow process. Everybody’s technical help is greatly appreciated.

Damn that's rough man, I could only begin to imagine the pain that you are going through, Godbless your family and I wish you luck on the treatment and your Swepty!

Godspeed to you & your family - LB

Best of luck with her battle. My dad passed with cancer last year. It was a hard fight & I know many many people battling it today.

I always have good intentions of daily driving my truck, but when I leave for work I always seem to get in the 2014 Avenger.

I guess it is a habit I need to break.

A 1967 D100(225/NP435/3.55/235-75R15) is my daily driver. I regularly get 16-17 mpg in the '67 so it gets the nod over the '85 W150(318/NP435/3.23/265-70R16). The '85 only returns 14 mpg under the best of conditions and closer to 12 mpg most often.

I have always heard that 6 cylinders engines did much better on mileage than V8s under certain conditions.

yeah they may not got the power of a v8 but slant 6's are bullet proof and economical, my 318 poly has a mild build makin around 350hp, on mid-grade keepin my foot outa it I can average 15-16 mph, not to bad!
