'62 D200
Hello. Tonight I picked up a 1962 D200. This is the first time since in 30 years that we've had a classic truck in the family. I'm excited to slowly start chipping away at some tasks and projects on this, but will try to just enjoy it in its current condition as well.
Some of the more obvious issues are surface rust, needs upholstery, wiper motors and maybe swapping out the camper mirrors. Although I will say - the folding mirrors saved me, wouldn't have fit in the garage without them.
Glad to have this forum as a resource. Will post more pics when I can.

Thanks! Small world, that you saw the Craigslist posting. Are you in the Central Coast area?
I have already learned a lot from reading through the forums. I do have my first dumb question. The first of many! Just to verify - these are not split rim "widowmakers" correct? They seem like a modern steel wheel to me, but I've never actually seen a split rim with my own eyes.

I'm from Paso but live up north now.
Have friends and family with Sweptlines down there.
Those wheels are newer Ford tubeless wheels. You can see the oval Ford stamp in the last picture.
I've still got a few parts in Paso if you are looking for something in particular.

Re: '62 D200
Oh, not sure how I missed the oval. Great, that's one less thing to worry about!
Thanks for the offer of parts! I don't have any plans for it right now other than chasing rust and using it to run to the hardware store. The final mile of road to our house is very bumpy, so new shock absorbers all around are on the list. Skyjacker appears to make a direct fit for a 62 D200 and I saw in a post here that new shocks may bring the stance back up a little bit? I am not trying to turn it into a Power Wagon but it would be cool to get it leveled out and sitting an inch higher.

Those rims are newer tubeless style. I run that style on my 66 W100. Only thing is you can't run original style hubcaps.wre805 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 12:10 pmThanks! Small world, that you saw the Craigslist posting. Are you in the Central Coast area?

Re: '62 D200
Thanks for the replies. Took the spare out from under the bed today after work... So THAT's what a split rim looks like. Anybody want this wheel? Let me know or else it's going in the dump pile...
Anyone have a link handy to order a 8 lug 16" Ford rim with the right backspacing? I can dig around on my own, and found a thread about it... but if someone has a part number...

Re: '62 D200
Looks like it will work.
I have had issues with using the 1st Gen Dodge steel wheels (88-93). The hole diameter is too small to fit over the hubs on the front and back (Dana 60 rear) of the D200 trucks. I had to use a sanding disk on a grinder to open up the center hole just enough to fit over the rear hub and fit over the 1/4" extrusion on the front hub. This was the case on my 68 D200.
The 80's to 1997 Ford truck steel wheels work great as they have the largest diameter center hole and the same 8x6.5" bolt pattern. There are 2 different widths of the Ford wheel I have recently come to find out (as I have both sets). The wheels with the 62 stamped near the lug holes are the wider 7.5" wheel while the other wheels (I believe these to be the older wheel) are the 6.5" width.
I attempted to use some mid 2000's Chevy steel wheels and bailed on those as they needed a lot of cutting/sanding around the center hole.

Re: '62 D200
Split "ring" wheels aren't dangerous. That wheel your spare is mounted on is the pre-'69
style and is probably worth something to someone. A "widow maker" is a reference to
a different type of 2 piece wheel design.
When a good tire shop mounts a new tire/tube on a split ring wheel, they're really no
more dangerous than the modern one piece wheels. I run split ring wheels on two of
my Power Wagons...... have done so for many years.....
Nice '62 D200 by the way!

Re: '62 D200
Thanks John. If you know of anyone who wants that wheel let me know. I figure if 4 wheels are already newer Ford steelies, may as well make it 5.
My next thing to bumble my way through is a brake light/turn signal mystery, but I will start a thread in the proper area for that!

Re: '62 D200
I believe the widow makers were called a split rim. I had one come apart on the left front of a d400. It put me in the ditch. I was damn lucky nothing was coming the other way. Scariest ride of my life!
Late 65 w 200.

That sounds like a bad turn signal switch.wre805 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:52 pmThanks John. If you know of anyone who wants that wheel let me know. I figure if 4 wheels are already newer Ford steelies, may as well make it 5.

Thank you! I will start a build thread one of these days. Although anything I have planned for it is pretty minor.
