New Member 1970 W200 Power Wagon

Post by DavidBW200 »

Hello,

I'm new here. I just bought a 1970 Power Wagon W200 flatbed with a 318. I needed a truck to do some local errands and occasionally move my compact loader/backhoe 5 to 10 miles, and haul the occasional load of lumber, trash, or sod. I was looking at late '90's to mid 2000's pickups and didn't find anything I wanted to own. Seems like the days of buying a decent pickup that has some life left for a few grand are over. I also hate what I call the vacuum line era of cars and trucks, the stuff that has all sorts of emission stuff that never works right and is a major PITA to figure out. I wasn't willing to spend the money for a late model truck, although I was about to just our of my need to move stuff around that I can't with my other vehicles.
Then along came a craigslist ad for my 1970 power wagon flatbed. It's the same year as I am, it runs pretty good, and I can repair of replace anything on it for the same time and money as it would take to chase down one defective sensor on some worn out 2002 truck. I'm loving the simplicity.

The former owner bought it from a guy who did a fairly good refresh of everything on it maybe 10 or 15 years ago. He drive it on an almost daily basis for about 5 years. His work was about 5 miles from home in a small town. So its mostly been driven at less than 50 MPH on country roads.
I had to drive it over Blewitt Pass in WA state, to my home in Chelan WA. About 125 miles, and the pass has several steep grades. It did better than expected and I am really loving this truck.

I have been a Mechanic for most of my life, but now currently a realtor. I am 100% a motor head. I hold an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license and have worked mostly on turbine helicopters, but like to play with bush type aircraft. I was at one time a master certified Ducati tech, I worked for a few years at a Lamborghini dealership, and currently have way too many cars and bikes. I have never really owned an old American V8 truck, except an F450, and a Chevy van which were both company vehicles that I did not work on. I am having fun learning about this rig.

Now I'll figure out how to post a few pictures before asking a ton of questions.
