NP540 W. Dual output rear PTO?

Post by ChipolteOrangeD300 »

Went to my local salvage yard and saw a D600. Believe it is a 73 if the tag/cab is original to the truck.

It has a 5 speed which got my interest.. and then I noticed there are 2 PTO shafts coming off the right rear of the transmission to run a crane on the back of the truck.

Can this type of PTO be swapped over to the drivers side and thus point forward, or are PTO's specific to one side of the transmission.

Do the PTO shafts run at the same time?

What is a reasonable price for the tranny, PTO and bell housing with clutch and PP? I am thinking I am willing to offer $400 for it all. Is that too much?

Thanks
J

PTO's generally have built in flexibility. Just turn them to point a different direction probably wont work, But if you look at them close they can probably be taken apart and reconfigured to point direction you need. If trans has 2, Each one can run independitely of the other.
My truck is younger than me.

Thanks, sounds like it will work out ok. I need to talk price with the Salvage yard, but it would be nice to get this set up home if we can work a deal.
