Original price?
I just have a curious question. Does anyone have any idea what the factory original purchase price might be of my 62 D100 SWB,slant,3tree.
It has the custom cab with the large rear window, no radio, no seat belts. No frills no thrills. I think other options are on the truck and others not.
But just wanted to get in the ball park.
Just curious.
Thanx.

Re: Original price?
I was just thinking the other day about a NEW truck compared to our Sweptlines. So, can you still buy a Brand New 'farm/work' truck. A truck with manual shift, rubber floor mat, (probably can't get a radio delete), no chrome on bumpers... etc. I highly doubt it, because today, everyone now NEEDS all those comforts of A/C, Bluetooth, POWER everything. I mean... who rolls windows up nowadays?

Re: Original price?
That's precisely why I'm going to all the time and trouble of rebuilding a new truck. I not only need a farm truck but one that is quite capable of numerous tasks. I'm guessing that to get a new truck that meets my needs would be $100K... out of after tax income.

Re: Original price?
You can still get a pretty stripped down truck, but that is by today's standards. I don't know if you can still get a manual transmission in any 1/2 ton and I don't think there is a radio delete option either. You can get manual windows, manual locks, rubber floor mat and painted bumpers. Some of the higher optioned trucks even come with painted bumpers because many people do not like chrome these days.Jims68 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 7:40 amI was just thinking the other day about a NEW truck compared to our Sweptlines. Re: Original price?
I'm a member of an F150 forum for the 2015+ trucks. Many people will de-chrome their trucks. Everything chrome will either get removed, replaced with non-chrome parts, painted over or plasti-dipped. The majority of the people do not like chrome, according to the non-scientific polls. Many do not like decals either and pull them off their new trucks.Jims68 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 2:56 pmInteresting.... Re: Original price?
Even a Tradesman Ram today is far from a stripped down model and you definitely can't buy them as you would like.
I was looking at them the other day and if you want the 5.7 hemi, you can only get it with 3.20 gearing in a 1500 and the 5.7 is not an option in the 2500, you have to go with the 6.4 hemi or 6.7 Cummins. Who the hell would want a work truck with 3.20 gears and 17" wheels, the only way you can get 3.55 or 3.73's is with a 3.6. Stupid JMO

Re: Original price?
The one truck made today that I would prefer would be a Mitsubishi Fuso FG. It's a cab-over 2-1/2T 4X4 turbo diesel, a true industrial truck. They use them a lot as snow plows and dump trucks for spreading salt on roads in New Yoahk.
Unfortunately, one can't register one in California.

Re: Original price?
I bought a 2019 Ram Classic this year to replace my Dakota. It a 4x4 with the 5.7 and the optional 3.92 diff. I looked at every brand and a manual transmission wasn't available in any 1/2 ton. My truck is pretty basic. It has power windows, power locks, AC, backup camera, trailer brake and steps. the only options. It does have the black package, black seats and bed liner with no chrome. I'm another that doesn't like chrome.swptln wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 6:56 amEven a Tradesman Ram today is far from a stripped down model and you definitely can't buy them as you would like.

Very nice! I think that's the same color as my 2015 Ram 2500.my5thmopar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:26 pmI bought a 2019 Ram Classic this year to replace my Dakota. I opted for the Tradesman crew cab 4x4 and the 5.7 Hemi was still the base
engine, along with a 3.73 gear and the snow chief plow prep group. That's about
the only option I needed. It has cloth seats and a rubber floor covering.

Re: Original price?
Maybe that was a option in 19, but I didn't see it as an option in the 20 models. That at least is some gearing you can use, but 3.20's would be useless for towing.my5thmopar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:26 pmI bought a 2019 Ram Classic this year to replace my Dakota. Re: Original price?
My truck has the original dealership decal for Bill Breck Dodge out of Colorado Springs on the tailgate, going through some old newspaper clippings I found online it shows an ad for a new decently standard 1-ton with a 50,000 mile/5 year bumper to bumper warranty listed at $1799. I wish new trucks were that cheap!

That ad is ridiculous. It shows a 1/2 or 3/4 ton in an ad for a 1 ton

That means... a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck would be cheaper yet!!!
