Considering a crew cab purchase! Questions on value and idea

Post by LAWFISH »

Ok i am considering buying this 65 crew power wagon. Waiting for the seller to get a title. Its originally a 318 4 speed rig. Been sitting since 1992. Seller says rust free and has house paint on it. Now has a running 413 in it since 1992 purchase by seller.

Here is my question. I have been buying trucks for parts and looking for a crew cab to put on a 5.7 Hemi platform, meaning any cab and mis match parts. I think this one is too nice for that and I am going to try and pick up another possible crew body no chassis if another lead works out. That said im really drooling over the possibilities of building this but it was not in my original intentions. Seller wants 5K for it and i have a guy who has 906 heads, water pump, intake, maybe some C body HP manifolds to change out the top end. I would be into this thing for over 6K at that point and I am currently building a home out of pocket and may need the funds this summer. Im selling a couple of other projects so i can keep this beast. Im still going to grab the other crew body as its cheap compared to this for a later build on modern gear.

If i need to move a rig like this, is $6500 to much to be into it.? Im an old muscle car guy and rememver when trucks were cheap. This crew matches my short bed w200 so like all of us I have th se dreams. If i cant get that out of it, i may pass to make sure i dont short myself when i do my next phase on my home. Just asking some legit questions as im not up on value of thse rigs as i should be.

If you don't change the appearance (paint it), I think it would take a long time to find a buyer at $6500. Many of us here remember when these trucks were cheap and that was a $1000-$1500 truck, or less since it's been sitting and currently lacks a title.

It will have a title or I won’t buy it. Should have a title in 10 days.

These trucks aren't money makers and rarely can be sold for what you put into them. Also they aren't popular enough to sell quickly.

But having said that, they are cool to own & mess around with. If you didn't have the other things mentioned already going on in your life I would say Go for it, but sounds like it would be best to pass on this for now. Maybe when your home is done & those other projects are sold you can give it a shot. :2cents
