Engine colors

Post by rjschaff »

Just wondering ... MY 71 D300 has a 383 that is turquoise(?)/green. Another Sweptline owner told me the engine should be red. And this past weekend I attended an antique truck show (310+ trucks) at the Tri-State Truck show in Winchester VA where there was a 1971 D200 with a 383 blue engine which the owner said was "positively" the original engine. It is not a big deal in my scheme of things, but just want to know. Thanks

Red is wrong. Chrysler engine Blue should correct for the 383
My truck is younger than me.

OK, but . .. ... what is a 383 with 4 barrel. that is painted turquoise/green? It was in the D300 when I bought it the first time in 2003 and still there in July,2017 when I bought the truck for a second time.

I could be wrong on engine colour. The Turquoise green could be correct. Small block engines were blue in 71. I made the assumption that blue would be correct. Later BB engines in trucks were blue. Problem is I have not had a 71 383 in a truck. Others will give their 2 cents on correct colour. If that 383 is original engine you should be able to confirm that with VIN numbers on block pan rail and date code to truck build date. :thinking :thinking

My 68 has the original 318. I've seen pics of red engines but mine doesnt look like Chrysler Red, but looks more orange.
