Steering Wheel shaft to the steering box.

Post by onetontommy »

I have a 1965 D-300 Slant 6 with a 9 foot step side box. I have been having some issues with the connection at the steering box. The piece that is connected to the end of the steering column that slides onto the splines of the steering box. Has anybody had issues with this piece. Seems to be missing splines in the female piece. I found a spare and its the same way. Also had the steering box rebuilt. My question is on the part at the end of the steering column. It is suppose to have splines all the way around it? If anyone has any ideas. Thanks Tom
Tom

I just checked an old rag joint from my D-200 and it is as you described. GP

It's basically keyed. A master spline.

So what's wrong with setting beneath a single pull string incandescent light bulb writing angry letters?

old thread, but anyways, i just stripped the same part out while moving my truck to another spot in the yard . i apparently never put a nut on the cross bolt that goes thru the clamp that squeezes the female part. fine teeth on both parts.
