What symptoms would present if you powered the electronic ignition module from the wrong side of the ballast?

Why is there a ballast?
Thought its only purpose is to reduce voltage to the points in a distributor while running.

The ballast reduces voltage to the coil to around 9v or 10v to increase the life of the coil. Constant 12v or higher will cause the coil to overheat, burn out and or rupture unless it has an internal ballast plus there's the ECU. 12V or higher messes with the ECU's ability to trigger and shortens it's life as well.

That part about the ECM trigger was wrong. The Mopar Performance instructions specifically say to attach the blue wire with the yellow tracer to the feed side or power into the ballast which would obviously send a full voltage signal to the ECM. Sorry about that.
