Cars that I have owned before is a long list of only VW and Mercedes. I had two 1993 VW Passats and a 1989/1990 Golf and both the second Passat and the Golf was so extremely unreliable that I will never again own a modern day VW. I also had a 1974 Mercedes 240D as a daily driver for about 4 years untill the roadsalt had eaten to much of it and replaced that with a 75 240D. Then I had a 1985 Mercedes 300 Turbo Diesel wagon that I tried to sell last year but ended up giving away to friend of mine. I once also had a 1973 VW 1303S (SuperBeetle) that I bought to drive to a VW meet (wich I did, I did however never drive it home as the engine died at the meet) and I spent about 20 000$ in 15 years on cars and parts for the first Mercedes project that I bought wich was a 1962 190 Diesel and later a 1961 190c partscar that was better than the Diesel and last a 1965 190c that was atleast a hundred times better than that again. I tried to sell it after I realised that I was never going to finish the projects but after advertising for 8 months I ended scrapping most of the parts and sold the 65 190c for scrapmoney to a guy that also (most likley) never will get it finished.

The wifes Mazda 6 ended up being ours after swappng it in a 1985 Mercedes 230TE that was given to me as partspayment on the 85 300TurboDiesel that my friend got last year. Most likely the best deal I have ever done as I ended up getting a car that around here is worth about 4000$ almost for free. I only had to change a few frontsuspension components and pay the registration tax and that in total came to about 800$.
The worst deal I have ever done was the Golf, paid 700$ for it, owned it for 14 months and spent 3500$ in parts alone on it and sold it on for 700$.
Sweet! I used to have one of those, back in the day, but mine was the 4 door 280. Mine was a 1973:

I loved that car. Had a HUGE power retracting sunroof. The only problem was that if it had a breakdown I had to wait 2 weeks for the parts to come in, and if they were wrong then I got dinged on return shipping too. This was in the early days of internet parts shopping, lol.
That looks nice. I had two of these /8´s back in the day. A 74 240D and a 75 240D (D as in Diesel, a 65hp four cylinder) they where great cars but, as all cars do and older Mercedeses in particular, they rusted out to much on me.
The 77 280CE was a W123 and it was sold last summer to someone in Lithuania as is often the case with older vehicles around here as prices in Norway are much lower than further south in Europe.
The 280CE was also very rusty and I had no intention of fixing it my self.
It was a strange car, quite early production with a serialnumber of 353 (Last six digits in the VIN are serialnumbers) and the 2,8 litre injected twin cam six and auto gearbox was the biggest (and most expensive) engine/gear combo you could have in these.
One would assume that someone that ordered a 280CE in 77 would also opt for other extras but no, this one did NOT have electric windows, electric sunroof (or a manual) , AC, head lamps washers, heated seats, rear headrests, cruise control, tinted glass or even a radio.
The only options listed on the tag was: Automatic gearbox, radiosuppressant with out radio and a emblem delete on the tailgate.
Must have been bought new by someone that only wanted to go fast but not in as much comfort as possible I guess :lol:

Oh, I nearly forgot.
My daily driver, the Honda Civic is no more and my wifes Mazda 6 is in my garage awaiting repairs. This summer I ended up buying a 2006 Ford Mondeo as a family car. It is a 2 litre Diesel with auto and had only done 190 000km (120 000miles) when we got it. Looked fairly nice and has worked out fine since then.
The 1985 Mercedes 230TE has been swapped to a buddy of mine so now I own only four cars (The 65 Dodge D100, the 69 VW 1300, the 2004 Mazda 6 and the 2006 Ford Mondeo)
But on a daily basis I do drive my company worksvan, a 2013 Citroen Berlingo. Here you can see a picture of it on one of the rather spectacular roads that we have to drive on in this country:

Hi team,

I just landed a '58 Power Giant - nice one family truck.
Titled '58, but everything I've touched so far is '59.
Pretty straight - painted once and that has given it a nice patina.

Flathead six. I'm having problems finding a fuel pump, and a couple cartridge oil filters.
Have had two of each and both were wrong.

Also, REALLY looking for a bracket for the fender-mounted spare.
Any leads or advice is way welcome!!

BTW: I have an early '65 Sweptline too, so I am legal to be here! ;-)
Wish there was a Power Giant site as cool as this....

Care to splain why? Just curious. I'm not a big fan of the stock iron manifolds with 2" pipes that came on my 383 and was contemplating the stainless short headers available for it now. I currently have similar short headers on the Green Truck (albeit mild steel) that came with the one I wrecked. With 2-12" pipes, they seem to breathe well and are also fairly tidy when it comes to access, albeit there should be a crossover.

Thoughts?

I've just grown tired of them. It seems as though I blow out a collector
gasket just about every summer. :banghead Also, #5 tube is so close
to the spark plug, I have to use a heat protector on the plug wire boot
and they last about two years before I'm replacing both the protector
and the plug wire. Also, for those of us who still like to use the old fashioned
gear reduction starter because of its distinctive sound.... when they
need replacing, you have to slide the header off and jack up the engine
slightly on the left side. My friend who restored the R/T suggested I use
a pair of higher flow '68-'70 B Body manifolds. He had a real nice pair
of them and ceramic coated them for me. He's in the restoration business
and reps for Accurate Exhaust so I got his discount on the manifold to
muffler OEM style H pipe. I'll grab some decent mufflers and the OEM
tail pipes this summer and we'll do the install. I've also got to drop the
tranny out to address [another] leaky input shaft seal....

dodgepowerwagon.com is not a pg site but there is a few guys over there that have tons of PG knowledge. the oil filter should be the same as many mopars in the 50s. I think your truck is a 251 flathead? if so a 230 fuel pump will work. they made way more 218s and 230s than 251s

They have them on eBay for about $150.

I doubt they have some of the problems you cited with access to the starter and such on a truck, but collector gaskets would be an issue. I'll think about fabbing a heat shield as I'd already run across that consideration. Stainless is not nearly as conductive as regular steel, but it does creep when stressed (unless of a better grade than I'd think a manufacturer would use). But having had steel headers of this design with decent results so far (but that isn't saying much, I was thinking of trying it. Given what you're saying, I might sleeve the joint at the collector to make a bit of a laberynth and stiffen the flanges.

If you've been losing input shaft seals, have you considered dialing the bell housing? I hate to tell you how many pairs of offset dowels I've installed, albeit those were small block aluminum bell housings in front of an A-833.

What was the outlet diameter on the R/T manifolds?
