9/8 ply is overkill on what appears to be 16" joist spacing, even if its 24".

it is 16'' and yeah I see that in the picture also....didn't notice it before, he was the one that put that section together as I was finishing the outside nailing of the joists. I will make sure that that gets sured up :Thumbsup

No joist hangers?
Hope u plan to use subfloor glue on the ply....
Don't need JH's when joist ends are on a solid surface. 1- 1/8 " tung/groove decking,cement and screws ( me like) :Thumbsup .
oops! , yes Simpson Jh's on opening. :salut
joint hangers?? for this opening under a bed in a TINY house? good grief!

the cross pieces don't need them, and the joist on the near side is too short to need one. the only ONE place that MIGHT benefit is the joist on the far side, the end you can't see.

more importantly, a non-expert can always throw money at something to feel better. I do it all the time. no matter how small the cost for one such "improvement," they all add up. the expert tells you what is necessary in a particular situation - where you NEED to spend your money.

I wouldn't even think about asking the 40-year-experience guy about this. :2cents

It is obvious from your post u have zero experience in construction or load path understanding, yet u feel qualified to give an opinion that the hangers are not needed. The "cross pieces" need the joist (not joint) hanger more than the interrupted joist. It seems u are insinuating that Chris and I are "non experts". FYI, I have had General Building and Plumbing contractors licenses in CA for more than 30 yrs. That floor won't pass inspection here w/o the hangers.

While I am all for suggestions by people, since I know nothing about construction compared to most, I hope not to start an argument between members....I will ask the guy that's helping me and if he says everything is good then I will go with what he says...if he says it needs to be redone then we will redo it :Thumbsup

Better yet, ask your building inspector.

well, not zero. I have built 2 WHOLE decks in my lifetime. And one had a roof, but I'm not sure whether it is still standing or not.

My main point was defending facechicken's reliance on his expert. (Sorry to mess up your thread, facechicken.)

I stand corrected. I wish I had known this.
But how could I ? Why not put that in your profile? The anonymous internet strikes again.

Also hmaynord...its all good I appreciate multiple points of view. Like I said, I don't have any expertise in this field I am just going by what one guy says to do...granted he has more years experience in the field than I do alive, but its still good to have the extra inputs :Thumbsup

When you get to the painting part are you doing that yourself?

That's been mostly my line of work since the early 80's.

3/4" Sturdifloor (T&G) on 16" span would be a very solid floor. 5/8" on 24" is a common spec. 1 1/8" is almost never spec'd. It was originally developed to span 48" between joists, but over time it does sag and has fallen out of favor. Ain't no such thing as 1". If u don't want a squeaky floor in future yrs, don't be chintzy with the glue.

I dug through my reciepts and its 3/4. We got a case of liquid nails to help with the flooring. The guy that's helping me said to figure roughly 3/4 a tubbe per 4x8 sheet....I thought that was a bit excessive but he knows what the deal is

Now that the framing is up, it does look tiny.

Being that I currently live in 240sq ft. , I hope that you have left room for a add on.
will add that all I have is a hot water heater, shower, sink, toilet and washer and dryer in so called bath room
that takes about 72 sq ft.

Add a small fridge a single bed a few feet of counter and sink, there isn't much room left for one person

Wish I'd of built about 500 sq ft now
