2 ton jack enough?
I am too lazy to go figure out how much my truck weighs. I think my 71 Challenger comes in at 3500lbs roughly.
I know there are 3 ton jacks out there but i am trying to find a quality jack. I found an OTC jack that is aluminum but its only 2 ton.....
Craftsmen jacks are the worst, and i won't buy heavy tools from China Freight..

Re: 2 ton jack enough?
you are never going to support the entire weight of the truck on a single jack.
2 ton should be fine, especially since thats probably more than your trucks weight anyway.

up to a 6ton bottle jack will fit in the spot beside the seat.

Re: 2 ton jack enough?
not sure what you are doing... is it for fixing flats?
i haven't carried a bottle jack for 30 years. 36" jackall and a cross wrench for the lugnuts. spare laying in the box, haven't lost one yet.

No, this would be a jack to keep at home to get it up on stands for general use.

Aluminum??? Never seen one. Are u sure?
I use a 2t floor jack most of the time. Probably came from china. Been around a long time. Might be a 3t - been even longer since I looked at the capacity. I can lift the entire front end of my D100 swb at the center of the front axle with it or the entire front of my W300. The D100 has the damn heavy cummins...

its hard to see in this picture, but this picker was about $350.00 and comes in very handy if you have a bumper to hook onto.
and yes, the back of that motorhome is VERY heavy, and would have been tough to lift with a regular scissor jack.

You could look on craigslist for a used jack. I've heard many people mention that most of the new ones are junk unless you spend more for a US made one. I bought an old Matco on CL. I was surprised when it said Made in Japan on it.

Re: 2 ton jack enough?
Ive been searching with no luck so far..... i'll keep trying until i need it.
Re: 2 ton jack enough?
I happen to also be in the market for a new floor jack, mine crapped out. I found some nice blackhawk jacks at Northern tool for fairly resonable prices, but they are not aluminum. Blackhawk has been around for a long time. As far as 2ton jack that would be more than adequete for most home garages, unless you own a 1 ton diesel. I personally am going for a 3 ton jack because you never know when you are going to need the extra capacity, and it does not cost much more than a 2 ton model.

Re: 2 ton jack enough?
I've had a craftsman 3 ton floor jack for 5 or 6 years now, and use it to pick the entire front of my crew cab off the ground. I also use it on my '74 cummins ramcharger on 44" ground hawgs. That said, I've never had a single problem with it. I bought it new and store it inside though, so if you for some reason intend on abusing yours I don't know how it'd hold up. My buddy has the same jack which he uses with his cummins pickup, and we have the same jack at work in the shop. I routinely use it to pick up the entire back of trucks loaded with tools for brake work and tire swapping. Obviously, the wheels are chocked and jackstands are ALWAYS used in conjunction with the aforementioned jacks, but all have been reliable and provided good service.

Re: 2 ton jack enough?
Well, from what my buddies and I have experienced, we're happy... However I noticed yesterday when I was in Sears the price has gone through the roof. Mine set me back $60, and that's what it is, a $60 jack. No way would I ever reccomend anyone paying the astronomical $149.99 they're trying to get now...
