Flying Barn Door
Flying Barn Door
I believe I have the Flying Barn Door ( 1963 short bed, fiberglass front end, front of bed cut out for spoiler, place in dash for push button trans., no engine or trans ).
I have seen the articles on the website and it looks like there was a long bed and a short bed. Does anyone know if there is anyone around who had anything to do with these trucks.
I would appreciate any info from anyone about this truck.
Thanks, swtom

Re: Flying Barn Door
I think your right down the street from me in Rockwall, TX. I would LOVE to come see this truck!
I was told, the last time it was seen (no idea of short or long bed) was in the Dallas, TX area. It was sold to a kid back in the day to deliver papers.

Re: Flying Barn Door
There is an article on the barn door at: http://www.sweptline.com/hist/
It would be interesting to restore. Even if it's a clone it would be very high on the cool factor. Mike

The shortbed truck appears to have been White but the roof and hood were painted. The pictures show two different paint schemes.

HA....but no seriously it would be cool to actual authenticate if it really is the Flying Barn Door.
Re: Flying Barn Door
I THINK THE TRUCK I HAVE IS THE 1 IN SPEED MECHANICS 1964. IT IS THE SHORT BED AND STILL HAS SOME RED PAINT.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE YELLOWISH LONG BED AND WHICH TRUCK WAS CALLED THE FLYING BARN DOOR.
I WOULD LIKE TO BUY ANY OF THE MAGAZINES THAT TALKED ABOUT THIS TRUCK IF ANYONE HAS SOME OF THEM.
THE TRUCK IS IN PIECES IN A BUILDING , IT WAS OUTSIDE FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE HAD IT ABOUT 23 YEARS.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PUSHBUTTON SHOWN IN SPEED MECHANICS CAME OUT OF OR DID THE TRUCK COME THIS WAY?
I APRECIATE ANY INPUT
THANKS,
TOM
