2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
howdy folks -
i am planning on doing at least the first four stops of the power tour - if funds work out and i can talk a friend into copiloting i may long haul the whole route.
who else is considering doing the power tour?
who lives along the route and doesn't mind a carpet-bagger or two?
with the black truck pulling down +/- 10 MPG i will probably be camping out of it every night! (just like old times actually) i figure if i "long haul" the whole route the round trip on the fuel will be about $1200...
it'll be so much fun though especially if i get to meet more sweptliners along the way!
Ben

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
thats right, baddeeds in his little blue short bed with the corvette suspension. i dont think he did the whole run though. i was thinking he did 2 or 3 legs before calling it quits. who knows??
i say slap a 2.76 chunk under the butt of that thing for the long haul and kick the gas up to 15mpg. between the auto, your stall, and the torque of that big block it would run real well (same combo the new yorkers ran). plus you would have a top speed around 140mph...lolol

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
ha!
i have a 2.71 sure grip rear axle on a shelf. i am running 3.23's right now and that thing rocks on the highway. i have had it to 100+ a couple time already...
i saw the Bad Deeds truck in person - very nice machine.
the wife is probably changing jobs in April so the timing and desire to do the long haul is probably bad timing in terms of funds. i want to do it and she is being supportive... but i need to be realistic and scrimp where i can. KOA camp grounds might be the best solution for saving money for lodging and sleep in the cab if i am tired (it won't be the first time :)

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
I'm definitely doing the whole tour, I live in FL and have family in Detroit. But, if the creek don't rise I'll be doing it in my '68 Charger R/T. If I can't get the car done to satisfaction by then, I'll take the pickup.
Thanks for reminding me I better get snapping on motel reservations.

If they were going through Memphis again I'd offer you a place to crash for the night. Between 2 tag-a-long campers and the 70ish 413 powered motorhome there would be plenty of space. Maybe next year...

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
Brian Deeds did the long haul, he also put his truck on the track to compete against the vettes and all others, his 451 stroker out performed the competition, 3600 lb Big Block going around the curves, you can still see the pictures on the Mothers website.wideblock wrote:im willing to bet youll be the first and only sweptline to do the long haul. didnt darrel do a few legs a few years ago, or was that brian?? hmmmmmmmmmm CRS is kicking in. you gonna put the old gal thru the slolum?? hahahaha carefull not to scuff the door handles...lmao!!!

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
At least 2 of us from Colorado was going to head that way, along with one of my sons in Georgia, but its going to have to be 2012, giving time to get ready to pay $5 or more a gallon in a multiple vehicles that get less than 10 mpg going on a 3500 mile trip, plus needing the padding for the competition, so we could get out there and show them what 3500 lb big blocks with suspension mods and tuning could do against them chitty's and ferds. maybe they will look at gettin pass the Missisippi River next year, probably not, but at least out here we'll get a bunch of Sweptlines together and talk Mopar all day

Sounds like a blast,I hope to have my town wagon done in time to do this a year or 2 down the road. Just sleep in the back! Its definitely on my bucket list! Hope gas isn't like 8 bucks a gallon by then.

I'll be at the montgomery and nashville as a spectator. No rides to go in this year. I ran half tour in 2006, cant wait to do a full haul in the 70 D100
Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
Ben, I can't help you going north since you will be by-passing Atlanta, but if you are coming back south down I75 you are definitely welcome to bunk over here at my house. I'd love for you to stop in.

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
Thanks Russ. I will keep that in mind for sure.
At this point the cost of fuel will likely cut the length of the trip for me. I will try to at least do Florida and Georgia to get a taste for the tour.
