Name has been in continuous use since 1958. Why change it if it still is valid?

Hmm. They didn't even get the year right. That's a 3rd generation and those came out in '03.

The Power Wagon name has been revived with the '05 4x4 models. From 1980-2004, they were called Power Ram.

"Sweptline" has always been the Mopar designation for a smooth-sided bed since the first one in 1958. "Utiline" was the stepside beds up until the last one in 1985.

"Club Cab" is Dodge's trade name for an extended cab, though some apply it generically to all, just as GM's "fleetline" designation is used generically by some for smooth-sided beds.

Even "fordor" and "tudor" (see the spelling!) are actually trade names for Ford. They are definitely misused to apply to all makes, by many people.

Three-deuce carbs is generic (but primarilily referring to GM), whereas "Six-Pac" and Six-Barrel" are Mopar tradenames. Again misused.

If I remember right, Unibody is actualy a Chrysler trade name that has been generalized, like GM`s Tri-Power.

The Sweptline designation applies to 61-71 trucks. I think the 58-60 wide bed trucks were referred to as Sweptlines also but they are pretty rare. I'm referring to the standard truck, not the Sweptside model with the station wagon fenders. The 72 and later models were referred to as the Lifestyle era models. There was no narrow bed, or Utiline models after about 1984 so I'm not sure there was a name applied to the wide bed models after that since there was no alternative. I think calling a 90's truck a Sweptline is incorrect. BTW, the 48-53 models were referred to as the Pilothouse models.

1985 was the last model year for a Utiline bed. My neighbor and I bought brand-new 1985 short-bed Dodges on the same day; his was a Utiline 4x4 and mine a Sweptside 4x2.

Sweptside is what I meant for the bed style from 1958 to the present.

Pilot House is 1948-53. Job-Rated trucks were from 1954-1960. Sweptlines followed, then Lifestyle from 1972-1980. The 1981-1993 trucks were Ram Tough trucks, then the '94 restyle had a new name.

RussRoth, the year is right on it, as the 1500 model's actually came out in 02. My parents have one and I have several friends that have '02 models. I can't remember what year the 2500 changed, may have been 02 as well, but the 3500 changed in '03.

ok well the year of the truck is right the curent generation of truck came out in 02 in the 1/2 tone version and 03 had all with the new body.
i work for a dodge dealer so i ran the vin #
as far as calling it a sweptline thats up for interpertaion, since dodge doesn't offer anything but a straight sided box. so as far as i know there is not different designation for what the box is, the option list just says 8 foot cargo box.
