What Sidearm Do You Carry?

Post by Floorguy »

If you carry concealed, what is it you carry?

Or, if you're hunting (or otherwise) and carry a sidearm, what do you carry?

Me?

Hiking/Fishing- Smith and Wesson 44 Magnum 4" Revolver w/Magnum Loads

Work/Public- Smith and Wesson 44 Magnum 4" Revolver w/44 Special Loads

S/W 44 mag 629, 3 rounds 320 grain hard cast lead, followed by 2 rounds 300 grain semi jacketed hollow points, rests on an empty. First 4 shots 4 the bear(s), last one for me.

PwrWgnDrvr Do you reload your own? I have never seen a 320 grain load for a 44mag. I thought 300 grains was the max load for a 44mag. if you reload, what is your recipe? I like Winchester 296 or Hodgden H110 powder for my magnums.

I thot so too until I was shown these. They are loaded by a very small company in Alaska. I don't even remember their name, and the only one place I know of that retails them is Mountain View Sports in Anchorage. They are marketed specifically for bear protection. Last purchase about 5 yrs ago, around $25 for 20.

Found their website but it is not fully built with all of their stock.

I carry a Sig Sauer 40 model P250. but I use a Ruger Super Redhawk .480 Mag for deer with a 9.5" bbl. and a red dot sight system and hornady XTP 325 grain bullet. I started years ago with a Super Blackhawk 44mag with a 10.5" bbl. and open sights with a hornadt XTP 240 grain bullet. the 480 is a true "one shot, one kill" gun. and capable of 400 grain loads

I carry my BFR in 45/70, 10-1/2" barrel. Most of the time my loads are a .459 dia. 372 grain soft cast teflon patched slug backed up by 30 grains of SR4759. Very accurate loads, it also shoots some 535 grain soft cast TP'd loads with 45 grains of IMR 3031. These shoot pretty well too. The 372's will go end to end on a large white tail and keep on going, the white tail kind of just crumples. Dave

NY State is a tough state to get a pistol
permit period, much less a Concealed
Carry permit. My permit is a Target
& Hunting only. For in-home protection,
I keep a Colt Trooper MKIII .357 Magnum.
I have two black labs who are light
sleepers that act as an "early warning"
device.

I love the last shot logic Terry!

I also carry exact the same gun, with a 4" barrel.

That sucks as far as the New York limitations.

The dogs are a great first alert system, gives you time to grab, aim and shoot.

Having a large dog can go a long way in many situations. the early warnig device is primary and then the factor of all those that drive by and see the scary and mean dog that lurks quietly. I think it could be a little insurance to those that look at your property with not so good intensions. my dog is a all black German Shepard, and not the friendly type . he is all business when it comes to watching out and seeing whats going on. if you pull into my drive-way you wont have to think twice about getting out of the car. I guess it kinda makes it worth having to deal with the dog crap on the lawn mower tires.

ruger security six 357 mag
I also have two large mean"looking"dogs-one near my front door and one near my back door.
every house around me has been broken into in the past, some more than once.My house has not.
I know its because of my saint bernard and my lab standing guard
I would rather keep someone out of my house than have to shoot them in my house-less mess.
