Transmission linkage.

Hey guys I have a Jasper 3 speed hooked up to my 318. It hasn't been downshifting right when I stop because sometimes it starts out in second and then feels like it is slipping into 3rd. Now lately it feels like its slipping more and more. He looked at it and said it's all out of wack because there is one part on the top that actually is so loose or whatever it hits the firewall behind the carb. There is a little rub mark and thats how we know it. How do I go about adjusting this properly? Is there a sheet online that tells you how to do it just right?

Brad,
Are you referring to your kick down linkage? This will run from the
throttle arm on the carb to the lever on your tranny. Is it adjustable
on both ends? Its a matter of adjusting, driving, feeling the downshift
while slowing the vehicle, etc., etc.. If the kick down hasn't been letting
your truck kick down in order for it to start from stop in 1st gear, get it
adjusted right away. Starting your truck out in 2nd or drive for too long
won't do the tranny any good. You say it slips now??? better get it
checked out to make sure you haven't fried something already.
