In the past I had seen an older man in town driving a 1969 D100 that was in good shape. Well I met him today; I drove my 71 D100 to his house. He told me that he started selling Dodge trucks in 1966 at a dealership called Glenclare motors in Los Banos CA. He said dodge offered a "blue ribbon package" that consisted of a white top (with any other color below), bigger mirrors, chrome around the wheel wells, full wheel covers, a chrome grill and chrome front bumper. He also told me that the Scat pack truck never went into production and it was only built for an auto show. I told him about sweptline.org but he does not have a computer. If anyone has questions for him just let me know and I will pass them along to him.

When my PawPaw bought his truck new in '68, the Dodge dealerships were giving away slot car racing sets. I would like to know if he remembers that. I, in fact, still have the slot car set that was given to PawPaw when he bought the truck and it is in pristine condition including the box. The set is made by "Eldon", the box has Dodge on the front and it is a 3 in 1 set, with road, drag, and stunts. It came with 3 bodies that are 1/32 scale and are a red '68 Charger R/T, a white '68 Coronet R/T, and a white "pie plate model" truck. I used to play with the set when I was a kid, actually, still do, but I haven't set it up in several years. I've got to get some pics on here because it is a really nice vintage set.

I have a set...my charger is white, coronet is red...and the Sweptline is red with a white cover on the box....

That's a pretty cool set, my Sweptline is white with a red bed cover. I see these sets on ebay from time to time, some go for pretty good money and some are kinda cheap. I was 3 years old when my PawPaw bought the truck and got the racing set, it was always called "my rainy day game". The set stayed in a closet at a place we have on Lake Martin, so it really didn't get played with very much and therefore it is in near perfect condition and all the pieces are there, the cars need new tires though, they have become hard and don't have much grip anymore.

Was this a dealer option or a factory option? I haven't run across any documentation of anything like this. Would this also have been 69-71 only? I don't think any pre-69 trucks had wheel well trim.

Ok I just got off the phone with Frank and he told me that the blue ribbon package was availble through Detroit so it was not a dealer promotion. He also said there were a blue ribbon #1 and a blue ribbon #2. The info I posted at the start of this thread was for blue ribbon #1. Frank does not know what was in blue ribbon #2 because he never sold a truck with that package. He also said that the blue ribbon packages were for 1969 only. The trucks that had a blue ribbon package still had a standard interior. The blue ribbon package #1 also changed the mirrors to more of a west coast style. Frank said they were about 6" X 9".

I also asked Frank about the slot car sets but he did not know about them. He said there were a lot of different packages and dealer promotions and they varied by state.

could you ask him about the 68 trucks, as far as packages, like what came with auto on dash, white steering wheel, and could AC be had with any package or just a specific package?

The cover is the only place I could find the blue ribbon mentioned.

Could you please ask him if he remembers what colors the 1970 and 1971 engines were painted...turquois or blue...be specific...big block and small block specific for each year...

I have a 1970 Adventurer with a 383-2bbl that I am almost certain was turquois and my 1971 318 seems like it was blue...

I would love to nail these paint applications down...

I don't think you can nail them down as there seems to be different colors used. My original 383 was red. I know this because I was there the day Dad drove it home. A parts guy I dealt with SWORE it HAD to have been turquoise and he had been around them as long as myself. I even brought him the original painted flywheel cover and I could tell he didn't want to believe it. All the 383's I have seen were red (yea, '70 and '71's) but others have seen turquoise and others say blue. I believe the turquoise but not sure about the blue. I think that might just be turquoise that changed shade from heat. Just MHO, for what it might be worth.

I know it's been many years, but if Frank has any info on the 1970 Chicago Auto Show concept truck, would like to know what hood scoops were used (Dart/Coronet, or ?) and waht engine was in it. Anything else about it, too.

Very interested in that truck too. Had asked about that truck last year to no avail.

It looks to be a big block truck with A/C. The wheels are Motor Wheels Spyders.

Funny thing, I haven't talked to Frank since I posed about it a few years ago. I still know where he lives, one of these weekends I will stop by and ask him. I was waiting until the 71 D200 was up and running so I could show him the truck but it keeps getting put on the back burner.

It would be cool for someone to post pics of the slot car set. I've never seen it if you have a pristine one that's awesome.

White Hat special. Blue engines in 70-71. I think red engines in 68 and probably blue in 69 but not absolutely sure.

I would ask the Sweptline Salesman this. My truck is a 1968 model and seems to be a different shade of blue than what the color guides show for that year. I was once told here that it could've been a "White Hat Special" and that those trucks were a different shade of blue, so, why the difference? Also, it's a "custom", has the white textured top, white trim down the sides, chrome bumpers, stainless drip rails, full wheel covers, white steering wheel, white visors, automatic trans but manual steering, no A/C and an uncut dash with no radio. It has a vin tag from Canada, yet the vin number says it was built in St Louis. Seems my truck is just weird, Lol, but so glad to have it. I just wonder if it was some sort of package deal or something? Glad it came with a slot car set too!!!!
