what to do with my truck
So i want your opinion on the direction to take my crew cab. I have been holding off on starting on the truck because i cant seem to decide what i should do. these are the ideas i have so far.
1. build a custom truck: lower it, do a custom paint job, 20inch wheels ect.
2. build a rat rod: lower it, clean up the paint maybe do a rattle can 2 tone paint job, keep the original steel wheels hubcaps, white wall tires.
3. restore the truck: repaint it, stock height, stock wheels hubcaps ect.
4. convert it to a 4x4: do a 4x4 swap, big lift, mud tires ect.
then what motor?
1. cummins turbo diesel.
2. 318.
3. 383.
4. 440.
I'm open to all your ideas im itching to get this thing started.

Re: what to do with my truck
As big and heavy as these rigs already are:
1. cummins turbo diesel or whatever equivalent falls readily to hand.
with appropriate necessary modification/upgrades. 4x as per preference.

Re: what to do with my truck
That truck just looks too pristine to modify much, maybe just go for the big cubes and some big modern binders etc. Nothing irreversible. ,A nice chrome gille and bumber Power windows, insulation, AC, upgrade wipers/lights etc.Things to make it a nice daily driver.
That has to be one of, if not the cleanest Swepts I've ever seen.

Re: what to do with my truck
I'm 300% with Achille and Cowboy on this. That truck is PRISTINE!... If it were my decision, I'd stick
a good A318/NP435 in it, throw on a really good sounding exhaust system and enjoy it. Get a set
of stock painted wheels and dog dish caps for it. Your truck is truly a time capsule! I wouldn't even
touch the paint.... that paint has excellent patina!....
With the amount of available Sweptlines in your region.... you could easily take your "firebird"
proceeds.... buy a rougher less original Sweptline and go hog-a** wild with mods.
I'm not a "purist" by a long stretch but your Crew Cab is so awesome the way it is now.... why
schuck it out?

Re: what to do with my truck
It depends on what your going to use it for? If it was mine i would make it my hauler. Drop a newer cummins in it call it good. Use it for pulling your other equipment around. I dont know if its a 3/4 ton or not but put a goose neck trailer. Just my

Re: what to do with my truck
i'm with fordflathead guy, i'd Cummins it, add some of the modern creature comforts, possibly put a 3/4ton ifs unit in the front so its a REAL pleasure to drive. probably original steelies & some hubcaps. and ride off into the sunset!!

Re: what to do with my truck
It would be nice to build a car and not have to worry about where i park it. I don't even drive my stupid firebird anymore for fear it will get messed with. I think im going to build a strong motor for the truck and keep it looking stock probly lower it 2.

This is what I would do.
"Custom" vehicles often look dated after the current fashion wears off. Remember "Pro-Street"? Remember the billet revolution of the early 90's? Both very dated looks now. Rat Rods will be yesterday's news in a few years too, although I hope not!
You can't go wrong with stock/sleeper. It is something that will never go "out of style".
