CSS crewcab

Post by csscrewcab »

Hello, I'm new to this board and I want to tell you about the very strange truck I bought. It is an early 65 CSS crewcab. It is in rough shape but it was equiped with 318, 3spd on the column, powersteering, power brakes, bucket seats, console, carpet, black with chrome grill and chrome bumbers, It has the sert tag confirming it is a CSS. I have been in contact with Ben Simons who verified that it is a really rare truck. I have been in contact with the son of the original owner who claim this is exactly the way his father order the truck. I hope to get some good pictures to post. Any thoughts? Has anyone else ever seen one before? Thanks

Hi Keith, I don't know what my total plan is yet. I bought a 64 3/4 ton crewcab this weekend for parts. It has a good box, hood and the rearend I need. This truck will take a lot of work. I learned to drive on a 68 d200 crewcab so there is some sentimental interest in fixing it. The biggest problem with this truck is the rusty floor and steps. They can be fixed, but it will take plenty of work. Ralph

nice find. Can you post a pic of the back seat? Does it match the front buckets?

Hello, The back seat is nothing special, it has a pattern in it, but it looks like a regular stock rear seat. It does not have the same pattern and the front buckets. When is gets upholstered it would be cool to make it match the front. Maybe use some front covers and extra foam to make it rear almost buckets/bench? Since it is a crewcab and has a fixed rear seat there is also no carpet on the gas tank, that would be a waste.

you have an oddball for sure. according to everything i have ever seen, dodge did not offer side trim on a crew cab. trust me, i have researched the crap out of crew cabs. who ever bought that truck new, had to of known someone with connections. i always figured somewhere out there someone must have opted a crew cab with the fancy css stuff. glad to see one finally surfaced. if you need any help on that truck, just ask, i have already built an early 65 from the ground up.

The guy who ordered this truck new, worked for the Railroad, I'll bet since the Railraod in those days had so many dodges, he might have had some pull to get something with these options. I figured it would be kind of tough to find the outside chrome this truck needs. A black truck would just not be the same without the chrome. Ralph

If Trey is right and the side trim wasn't normally on Crew's, it looks like you already have the toughest pieces, the rear doors? Or is that the light playing tricks? You are absolutely right, though, the chrome will really set off the black paint. Good find!

Your right about the rear door chrome. I think the pieces I need are the box chrome and the cab corner on the passenger side. I have the original hood and chrome. The hood is junk but the chrome is good. I will have to look at it real close, but I think the rear door chrome is just a shorter piece of front door chrome. I didn't realize the chrome would be a strange item as well. Interesting. Ralph
