Summer roadtrip

Enjoyed a 2332 mile road trip through the midwest in July during the triple digit weather. Started in Georgia and passed through Tennessee and Kentucky on our way to Illinois. Quick stops in St Louis, Wisconsin and Indiana. Followed my GPS Apps Roadside America and Route 66. Covered most of Illinois Route 66 from Chicago to St. Louis. The Start of Route 66 is on Lake Shore Drive which is US Highway 41, the same road that passes through Marietta, GA on its way to Miami.

Traveled with the Family in my Mazda5 Multi Activity Vehicle (Mini minivan!) Pictures are on my photobucket account if you are interested. Sight unseen I programmed the GPS to take me to these points of interest.

The World's largest covered wagon doesn't even have a cover on it. Looks like you saw a lot of interesting stuff but why so many pictures of the van?

Great photos, hows the MPGs on that car?

I averaged about 26.5 to 27 for the trip. I took alot of pictures with my Mazda5 for my Mazda club members to enjoy. That's why it is in most of the pictures! Had I been in a swepty it would have appeared in the photos. I took a total of 1800 pictures but those were the highlights.

That bus motor home was wild! Did you see inside?

The converted bus was Bob Waldimire. He was the inspiration for Fillmore in cars. An old Vegan Hippie that traveled the road drawing postcards and art. Had a composting toilet and collected rainwater. He turned down Pixar to have Fillmore called Waldimire in the movie. His dad invented the Corn Dog and ran the Cozy Dog in Springfield. Now his brother runs the store.

Great shots. Someday I hope to do the whole route. My prefered ride would be a 39 Chevy Hot Rod! My first car was a 39 Chevy I bought in Southern Illinois along Route 66!

Awesome! Thanks. I really loved the driver's seat kitchen table chair with what looked like a seat belt laying across it. Amazing with all those tchotchkes there seemed to be a place for each kind of object: the bowl of old golf balls on the desk, the rocks on the dash, etc.

The guy at the museum told me that if Bob found something and figured there was something he could do with it he kept it. I would have loved to have seen that contraption on the road. Yes he did have a seatbelt but sat on an old chair! The inside was packed with everything you could imagine. He was very organized and everything had its place.
