My Sunday purchase $100/ 69 Camper special/ runs/ drives!
Just thought I would share my Sunday craigslist finds. A running/ driving/ titled 69 Camper special with some floor and lower door rust. Floor in usual places, old owner cut it out and put in new sheet metal/ incorrectly. Runs/ drives with $500.in recent receipts for all new brakes and other.
Also bought this CRORNWELL 60 inch box, bx 48,24 deep for $250.00 from a different seller.
Im keeping the truck to go with my 67 Power wagon and 68 Uteline. I bought th etruck signt unseen because the seller said it had good doors( nope) and front clip, as I needed it for my 68 uteline project. Upon seeing it, its too nice to part out. 318 4 speed, power brakes. runs great after it warms up.

I do believe, that extended gauge bezel was ONLY available on Adventurers.

The larger dash bezel was also part of the "custom " interior pkge.
A Adventurer would have upper door pads.
Great score.

Re: My Sunday purchase $100/ 69 Camper special/ runs/ drives
Well, took it for a spin with the wife today, went around the block a few times. It has some minor issues but runs well. Let me ask this ? Do they make a tilt column for these for is it a substitute as the wheel rides very high and I lean back as I am 602. It would be a lot easier to drive with the wheel lower? Just curious.
Also, some gauges work, some dont and the heater runs on high as the defroster cables and fan cables are obviously not connected, So, once I get some room in t5he shop, its coming in right after the Cuda vert gets its new gauges and gets out of the way.
are the heater controls usually easy to work on in these or are replacements available and if so, where?
Thanks
Dave

Did I read that right? Did you say $100????? I think you forgot a zero in there somewhere. That is a heck of a buy for $100. What is the story behind it, how did you get it for so cheap?

Now that I have a moment to elaborate. The seller had a young kid place it on craigslist with no pics and an asking price of $500.00 as the seller didnt even have a computer. I was in contact with them and went to Reno to grab a crowmwell tool box I bought cheap as well. I didnt have much cash left but made the offer of $100 as that was all I had. They took it. When I got there, I put a battery in it, it started right up and I had the old man drive it only my trailer as I wanted to make sure he didnt hit my 60 inch toolbox, that was in front of the trailer.
Turns out that the old dude just moved to Reno from a rural area into the apartment complex. He had until that day to get rid of the truck as he only was allowed one parking space. I believe that the apartment complex folks were going to tow it if it was not gone by that day.
RUMBLON.
That said I see lots of these trucks out here for 200-500, running and driving. some time you just need to show up and show a few bucks.

Well, my guess is that if I didnt come along and buy it for the $100, which is what I had, then it would have been towed, and eventually crushed. But in any case, I dont feel guilty! I do feel lucky.

Not sayin this as hypothetical. I have done that, more than once.
One nice Adventurer was offered to me for $800. I told him I would only buy it if he would take $1000. Then, he said he had just paid for a year of registration renewal (13 months as of that day), so I said make it $1100.
Boons, that old guy does not think I am "an irritable old *&#$%@".

Bigdad, I happen to have a whole slew of decals I bought last year, one for my 67 Power wagon, paid $225.00 for this one and rebuilt it using a 63 front group, one for my 68 uteline /6 truck and one for this with many decals left over.BigDad wrote:Dave gets all the deals !!

and one for the new truck. Here is a pic of the seller driving it onto my trailer. I bought it to use the front clip for my 68 Uteline but after seeing it, decided to keep it as is and make it a ranch truck. Notice he does not look to unhappy! No twisted arm either.

cant see his arm.
I tell you one thing, his backside is prolly sore from the screwin he took.
$500 into brakes and what not and he gets $100, and has to help you load it on your truck.
Im sure he felt real good about it!
I guess you were just at the right place at the right time to take advantage, congrats.

Man, you really don't know when to let up.
I missed the part where Lawfish told us he had a gun to someone's head. Like he said, a day later and it would have been towed.
So, hypothetically speaking, let's say it got towed....
scenario A:
Truck is towed. This amounts to a towing & storage bill of possibly $200 a day (thats the rate locally) at this rate lets say it cost him 2 days = $400
He now has a truck that he is asking $500 for which he just had to pay $400 to get out, that price now dropped to $100
scenario B:
Truck is towed. Sits in the lot for 4 months and gets crushed or auctioned off. The owner get zero proceeds at this time and possibly still received a Bill.
The owner had every right to back out of this deal. Lawfish stated that its all he had available and I am glad that he got the deal. I guess we area all supposed to pay top dollar for everything we find.

Re: My Sunday purchase $100/ 69 Camper special/ runs/ drives
Thanks for the support, but I am used to folks trying to take a good situation and make it something negative. Its ok with me as what he wants to say is, "your bad". That said, I am semi newer to the trucks and got into them because the muscle cars were getting so bad price wise and the car guys were leaving and the commodity guys were taking over. But in the last 25 years I have given away enough parts to build a car or two. Some to kids who needed free parts, some to friends and some to people I just met because I had extra. Im talking everything from cuda fenders to rally dashes to 440 cores. I help people I know in many ways from helping them paint their cars, ect to just being a source or middle man and passing along a deal or what ever. I have even done that here on this board. I simply belive that what goes around, come around and this was a deal given to me and now I have a little truck that I will take to my ranch in Idaho if/when I ever get there. I also belive that there are a lot of deals out there if you simply get off your arse and check things out. I got into the trucks for the camaraderie that seems to be slipping away in the muscle car world, where its all about dollars, attitude EXPENSIVE CARS.. I understand that these trucks in decent form are a lot harder to get in the midwest and back east but out here I see them cheap a lot. And that one reason to collect them. For the price of one cuda, challenger, ect, I can have 20 nice little trucks rolling around if I paint them myself and have fun doing it. And since I have three, I only need 17 more. Oh, by the way, I sold a running driving 383 71 auto truck to someone on here for $500.00. Rust free truck too. I paid $500 for that one and when I thought I was going to have to move quickly a while back, I sold it for less than I had into it. I too was happy to get it a new home.wally426ci wrote:Man, you really don't know when to let up.
