Two trucks local Pull A Part

Postby 71Swept » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:59 pm

Checked the local Pull A Part last night and it showed they just had two Sweptlines come in. One a '63 and the other a '70. So went down and checked them out today. Both were utiline beds, I guess it's what, 6.5 ft length? The bed on the '63 was solid, one dent in the driver fender. Wood floor was gone but the rest of the bed look salvageable. Sheetmetal on both trucks was in pretty bad shape. The '70 had the front end swapped out at some point. I got a few parts off both. May try and go back next week and get some knobs and a few other items off. If there's anything anybody needs, let me know and I'll take a look. Also had an A100 van down there. Looked mostly complete but pretty rusted. Kyle

Yeah, that '63 overall was not in bad shape, but you could tell it had been sitting out for quite a few years. The floormat was pretty much intact, it had some cracks to it, but not often you see a floormat as good as it was sitting in a junkyard like that. If somebody is interested in the parts, I'll do what I can to get them. The trucks haven't been on the yard too long, so they probably have another month or better before they get crushed.

The three stem mirrors for sure. The radio maybe. Hood hinges if they are not tweaked. The uteline tailgate, if not the whole bed if it's solid or at least repairable (Isn't Scott kinda in the market for one of those?). Windshields if they are good. Doors maybe. This is what I look for when I find one in a boneyard, unless I know of someone that needs something specific.

Wouldn't mind having an A 108 like that, but if I get one it needs to be a decent driver and not another project. Family has outgrown my car.

Is that an automatic column in the 63?

I believe it is. I couldn't get the drivers door open so I didn't get a good look at anything on that side. It looks like it's a rod sitting on top of the column though from my picture? Would that be right for the automatics in the older trucks?

If it is an automatic, I would be interested in the entire column.

If anything, it is a 3 speed column. Auto's were pushbuttons on the dash until 65, then became dash shift levers until 69.
Ute tailgates are also gold. Get the ashtray! Check dome light lenses.

Went back today and picked up a few more items people were asking about. I got the glovebox door off if anyone is interested in it, real nice. Tried to get the tailgate, but after we got to working on it, it's not as in as good as shape as originally thought. It's got a curve in it, if somebody really needed one, I suppose they could straighten it up. Got the Ute bumper off for someone. Not bad, needs a little work but very usable. Started working on getting the two steps off the bed, got one almost off but of all things, I needed a 7/16 socket and the one in my toolbag has gone missing. Steps are in pretty good shape, so if anyone needs them, I can go back.

The '63 has the A745 3 speed. Shifter looks to be in great shape. Didn't get the ashtray but can always get it later if anyone needs it. Between the heat and humidity, I had enough real quick. The dash is really nice as well. Here's a few additional pictures of the '63.

Sorry guys, I was thinking of the later beds, it seams like chains would bind up in the tail gate? :thinking
