1970 318 H.P. Rating

On my W200 door jamb "tag", the horsepower is listed at 177. I thought all the 318's from 1970 were 210 H.P. This is a standard 318-1 engine, so is the tag a misprint or were there 177 H.P. engines in 1970?

Re: New 1970 W200

beautiful truck! and its really nice to see some recognition for the guy who demonstrated the enormous amount of respect necessary to preserve something like that so well for so long. :Thumbsup :clap Bob, The guy was a true gentleman; a "salt of the earth" type of person. I felt fortunate in meetin...

Re: New 1970 W200

:goodpost Well heck yeah we want to see more!! That looks like an amazing truck! Now I see why they were so skeptical on getting rid of it. Glad to hear you got it worked out and it made the trip. Did you get the seals changed? Yeah, Got the seals changed and replaced the front brakes before ...

Re: Truck Manual Help

Interesting how much these manuals are going for. When the first owner of my truck ordered it from the dealership, he also ordered the factory manual with the truck. It is listed at $9.45 on the invoice.

Re: New 1970 W200

http://s666.photobucket.com/albums/vv28/SunDried/ It is easier for me to post a link than resize the pictures. Some more info: I am only the 3rd person to ever drive this truck besides the owner and his wife. All the service was done by him including tire changes. He told me that if the split rim de...

New 1970 W200

I made it home to Florida from Ohio last night. I am the lucky owner of this all original truck. It was purchased new by the past owner who was an aircraft mechanic for the Navy. The truck has been maintained in pristine condition and is just an unbelievable time capsule. Zero rust, original paint a...

Re: Deisel Engines!

Dodge USED many diesels in their truck lines during the Sweptline era but I would imagine they were used in the heavy duty trucks and maybe a few in the sweptlines. I have no idea which ones were applicable to the pick ups. The following list is of all available diesels in 1970 and used on trucks up...

Re: Dana 44 Large vs Small

John,
On the pictures that I sent you of the 70 W200...there are a few that give a partial picture of the knuckle. My guess is that it is the small one. What say you?

Re: Dana 44 Large vs Small

John,
Thanks for the photo. Is the only way to tell the difference between small and large; by counting the bolts on the seal plate: i.e. 8 bolts= small. 12 bolts= large??

Dana 44 Large vs Small

1970 W200.....When ordering a winch equiped truck....was the Dana 44 automatically upgraded to the 3500lb large knuckle from the 3000lb small version or would the customer have to specify the larger axle?
Thanks

Re: Sweptline Dimensions

Doug, These are the most conservative farmers I've ever dealt with. They are afraid to handle cash....a cashiers check still has to clear because it would be drawn on Bank of America and deposited in their smalltown bank. They wont drive the 60 miles to a BofA branch and cash the check. Just old peo...

Re: Sweptline Dimensions

I did not know about Russ's truck....but thanks for the lead. I've been collecting muscle cars and old trucks most of my adult life. And although I have owned a few "restored" or "redone" examples; my interests have always been for the original, unmodified, original paint type vehicles. I just have ...

Re: No start condition has me stumped... Help requested!

I had a 66 tri-power GTO that did this. I changed and tweaked everything under the sun....An old timer told me to change the plugs. I had looked at the plugs and they were fine, normal color, not burnt. Finally I took his advice, changed them and the problem was gone!

Re: Sweptline Dimensions

Yeah...its roadworthy other than the seals. I believe the seals are shot on all 4 wheels. Are the seals available from VPW or another source? I'm familiar with the FFPW.....do the "bearing seals" on the sweptline keep the differential fluid from leaking out or do they just seal the bearings themselv...

Re: Sweptline Dimensions

Thanks John! I need the dimensions to get the truck shipped here from Ohio. I'm tempted to drive it back to Florida but the wheel bearing seals leak some and I'm afraid of getting oil on the brakes and losing the brakes on a 1000 mile trip. It would be simpler to drive it but maybe not too smart. Wh...
