Re: Just bought a 1958 jeep CJ5 with a Poly 318
What could the trany T-case combo be? Since it's mated to the 318. Check with a magnet to see if the bell is aluminum. Does the clutch have a mechanical linkage? It appears to be mechanical & approached from the REAR. As PwrWgnDrvr stated the bell doesn't resemble anything from a 61-68 TRUCK. Now I...

Re: Just bought a 1958 jeep CJ5 with a Poly 318
I have seen 59-later with 2 bolt valve covers. But keep in mind there were dozens of different displacement V8 engines used by Chrysler Corp in the 1950s, some Hemi, some poly, some wedge. I'm not always certain of exactly what engine is in any given picture. For ordering a thermostat or other parts...

Those engines mostly came with Carter BBD ( Ball-ball dual) but I have seen Strombergs. I will look more closely at the pictures in the upcoming days.

I would say red too. That puts it 61-later.

You're doing good with the uploading of pictures. But I can't tell from that shot what T-case it might be. Appears to be missing most of the parking brake components.

Re: Just bought a 1958 jeep CJ5 with a Poly 318
As I understand it, the 318 was around from about 1965 to 1975, approximately. Are you saying this engine was used in trucks only up to 67-68? That would narrow it down quite a bit. My understanding is the only twin stick transfer case that was available at the time from factory is the Dana 18. Is ...

Re: Just bought a 1958 jeep CJ5 with a Poly 318
Poly 318 were used until about 67-68 I think Canada trucks were last to have them.
Twin stick transfer cases were used by Dodge through 68. Those typically had the parking brake on the rear output.
I suspect someone stuck the whole combo from a W series truck into your jeep.

Re: Fuel filter brand?
^^^ I am needing a new inline filter on my W600 318. Also I need a new fuel pump. Saddens me that even Carters & probably Holley too now are made in China. The $30 parts store pumps go bad extremely fast.

Re: Clutch question
Yes balance is the same for 318,383 & forged 440. But as Dodgeboykim mentioned the bell AND the starter would be different on those hydraulic clutch units. From what I recall the 383 "hydraulic bell" starter is hard to come by but they can be rebuilt or fabricated using various parts. I think it's t...

Re: Drive shaft found on ground
When you placed the transmission in Park (I assume the truck is an automatic) outside your garage, I am surprised that it remained stationary & didn't try to roll away since it had no drive shaft. Does the pinion (the part inside the hole on the front of the rear differential housing) appear to be d...

Re: Best Place for Brake Parts (71 W100)
I would contact a suspension lift company such as Skyjacker & see what they have. One of the components of lift systems 4" & greater is longer flexible brake hoses. I know you don't need the extra length but it should have the correct ends. I also would suspect that 4x4/offroad specialists would be ...

Some guys over on the Ramcharger Central site have done the Holley Sniper. Not on a Swepty but on 70's & 80's carbed engines like 318, 360 & 440.
You may be able to read up on what bugs they had to work out & how pleasing the final results are.
I personally haven't tried FI.

Re: Parasitic Draw
Does your coil get warm with the key OFF? Maybe something is causing it to have some voltage all the time, thus drawing the battery down.
