Re: Rear view mirror hardware
My 62 with a stock mirror has a stud with threads in the back of the mirror. There is a 5/16 nut between the mirror and the mount acting as a spacer and another nut holding it all to the mount. All my other trucks have a more modern mirror on them that just need one nut on the stud to hold them to t...

Re: 1961 Light/Vent/Wiper Knobs
There is no set screw on the light knob. It is molded to the shaft that pulls out of the switch after pressing the release button located between the wire connection tabs. Can be a PITA.

If the teeth on the handle post are stripped you'll have to source a good used replacement.

Re: '68 D200 Camper Special WTB Distribution Block
If you refer to the FSM brake section, there is a detailed drawing of the safety switch and description of its function. If you haven't already done so, check/replace the rubber brake line hoses. They will swell up internally with age, restricting flow, even to the point of completely blocking off f...

Re: '68 D200 Camper Special WTB Distribution Block
The factory "block" is a safety pressure switch that indicates a failure in the system. There is nothing in it that affects function, wears out or needs replacing.

Re: replacing hydraulic clutch components...
Open the bleeder, watch it while someone else depresses the pedal. If you don't see fluid squirt several inches upward, the master is not functioning.
If it does, close the bleeder, watch the slave while someone else depresses the pedal. The slave pushrod will extend and actuate the clutch arm.

I have that trans in a 66 D100, behind a Cummins 6BT. The rear mount is a custom fabricated cross member bolted to the frame.

Re: Replacing the clutch system hydraulic components
The reason for having to pull the pedal up is the monster "over-center spring" on the pedal arm up under the dash. Its purpose is to assist with pedal force when actuating the clutch. Sort of a quasi power assist system. When the bleeder is open, there is no counter force against that spring from th...

Re: Replacing the clutch system hydraulic components
I asked recently of the forum members if there were any pratfalls to be aware of when changing/replacing the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder. I replaced both with new parts I purchased thru eBay. With both components installed, I was unable to create any significant pressure on the sy...

Re: 63 w200 firewood getter
It has been a good truck, it has come along way since I first bought it in 1995, eventually I would like to put a 12v Cummins in it, that would work well with the Dana 70’s that I will be putting under it in the near future The usual challenge with the Dana 70 rear is the distance between backing p...

Re: Alternator Exciter Wire on '61
Simply follow the wiring diagram in the FSM and forget about what the wires are labeled. Electrons don't give a scheiss what color insulation is on a wire, nor what the wire is called.

If it is connected to the regulator the other end would never be connected through a fuse, nor a hot terminal on a fuse panel.

Re: 63 D200 Bed question
Someone has seriously modified an original bed. The stake pocket is gone above the fender and that fender was never used on a sweptline bed like that. It looks a lot like a 9' dually bed that was cut down, the dually fender extension removed and the step shortened. If so, that's a huge shame as the ...

Re: Hydraulic clutch parts replacement
I'm currently in the process of replacing the master and slave cylinders on my 1965 D100. It so far seems pretty straight forward. Are there any pratfalls I should be aware of? For instance, the reproduction service manual I have indicates the clutch pedal spring should be removed. Is it really nec...

Re: Just bought a 1958 jeep CJ5 with a Poly 318
On the engine referenced above, the bell will not come off the engine until the flywheel has been unbolted from the crank. The bellhousing shown in his picture that attaches the T-90 transmission to the poly 318 engine has a mechanical clutch linkage, not hydraulic. So I'm not certain as to whether...
