Re: Pre-fire up tips?

Truck is to get a full rewire anyway. Have found no chewed wires, just 50yrs worth of cobbled together to make it work mess. Going with aftermarket gauges. Aftermarket lights. GM alternator, Ford or Jeep electric choke 2bbl, Ford/tractor starter relay. Every fail prone electrical item is getting upg...

Re: Transmission mount

Look at other brand mounts. S10 and Danger Ranger 5 speeds used flat mounts, so did some Jeeps and 73-91 Chebbies

Re: Pre-fire up tips?

Zero rust under the valve covers. Still had oil sitting on the rockers. Intake is covered in “rodent rice”... have to vacuum it off before proceeding further. Every parts house down here has to special order the intake gasket set. I still have small port 2bbl cylinder heads. Would like to find a ser...

Pre-fire up tips?

Been sitting for years. Pulled driver side plugs, oil fogged cylinders. Will do passenger side later today. Want to pull valve covers and intake. Pre oil everything. Motor oil? Gear oil? Grease? Break in lube? All of the above? The less chance of dry metal to dry metal contact the better. Going to t...

She DID however dig out a Haynes or Chilton manual for it... from her late father’s library.

Re: My New 68 D100

Beautiful truck. If it is titled as a 68, a prior owner did a seamless 65.5-67 front end conversion. Which ARE the best looking of the bunch.

That front end on a 61-early 65 short bed with round tail lights is the definition of perfection.

M400 in my RV shed has a white wheel. Licensed as a 71 or 72, chassis built in 1968. Cable shift 727 with tail mounted parking brake. Short gauge surround. Standard D/W gauges on the light blue mounting plate. Standard issue burned out fuel gauge. 1948-56 headlight buckets and rings. 61-65 front tur...

Check your spring hangers while under there. If your truck is like mine... front spring eyes are tight to the frame. Dead springs. Was not expecting that, my 49 sits perfectly even without shocks...

Search older posts on this subject. There was a complete tutorial to convert to a Ford relay. It completely solved the same issues on anther member’s truck. Heavier duty components.

Re: '67 W200 charging issue

If you aren’t dead set on a stock look... get an alternator for a Hi Perf 305 Camaro and be done with it. Internally regulated 94amp.

If you want-need to keep it stock, have a GOOD alternator/starter shop go through it. IF you can find one that will touch a 61-69 round back case.

End link bushings... simple job

Energy Suspension 9.8107 hourglass shock bushings. Take the tire/wheel off. 2-3 days before starting, saturate the end link hardware with REAL penetrating oil. Wire brush bolt ends clean. 3/4” heads, bolt AND self locking nut. Spin the nuts off, tap the bolt end. Watch where it bounces off to. The n...

Truck’s gotta be haunted...

Hasn’t run in years. Have barely gotten back to working on it... 1) Fresh oil AND filter. I have NOT changed either, the new stuff is still packed up in another truck. 2) Fresh chassis grease. Not by me. 3) Known cracked drum no longer is... 4) Brand new brake shoes. The ones I bought are still in t...

Re: Wiper Blade Refills

69 up just run 67-86 Ford wiper arms. Pop right on and refills are dirt cheap/plentiful. Good idea. Anything for early trucks? Other than old Bug stuff maybe? Haven’t really looked much, my old timer is wiper free. Come to think of it, the windshield gasket finally let go this past spring. Only hel...

“West”...? Furthest west I ever want to go again is northern Arkansas...

Looking at within 2hrs of Bristol, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Knoxville. Close enough that we can go to events, yet far enough away that we are left in peace. But stay in TN, no state income tax.
