I guess it doesn't make much sense to say, plastic just doesn't seem right, but then I'd be OK with using foil tape over something that doesn't fit.

it sounds like you're talking about the starter relay, not the solenoid. the starter relay is attached to engine compartment side of the wheel well. starter relay for manual has only 3 terminals. if yours has 4, you have a relay for an automatic trans. no clue what is supposed to happen with it wire...

, given that the engine must be running for the BR to be in the circuit, the '65 TSM is fine with 7.3A running continuously through the coil : 1.41 + 0.5 - 1.91ohms. 14V / 1.91ohms = 7.33A. It isn't the DC that fries a coil but the current at peak voltage (~12KV if memory serves) when the input is ...
