Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Also if you're really lucky you may just find your problem when you go to pull the plug wire off with the engine running.... Sometimes you'll grab the plug wire and find that there's a crack in the sheathing and get a very nice shock that sends you jumping and your head hitting the hood. Ask me how ...

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

After you rule out mixed up plug wires you can always do an RPM test to find the dead cylinder. Here's what you do: Buy or borrow a tachometer and temporarily hook it up, have the engine running then pull a plug wire and note how much the RPM drops, put the plug wire back on and move to the next cy...

Re: Head liner

Hey guys, I have a headliner that I may be interested in selling but not sure what it's worth? It's the full size one with pleats, Good condition, white/cream, complete, no rips or holes, all nuts bolts, and trim. I'm sure if it's not proper color for someone could be dyed or painted in some fashion.

Re: new box power steering

Hey Kurt, Might be a bit premature here but when you get this up and running depending on driving impressions you may want to consider the procedure outlined in the article linked below. I'm going to assume you're utilizing a Saginaw P/S pump as it's the most common? I will be using a Saginaw pump a...

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Stevo - Here's your plan... Grab a partner, one of you in the truck and the other looking under at the driveshaft, person in cab has brake pedal firmly pressed and gives a decent amount of throttle input (for a very short time), the other calls out if the driveshaft is moving at all. If the drivesha...

Re: new box power steering

I'm far from an expert but if I remember correct aren't the W trucks a crossover style steering in front of the axle where as the 2wd D trucks are a push pull style steering with the box behind the axle?

Model 86 Heater Box to Cab Foam?

Hey guys, Rebuilt my Model 86 heater box over the weekend and the only thing I need to complete the job and install is the thick foam that goes between the cab and the inlet to the airbox. Anyone know where I can get this foam? I went to some auto parts stores as well as hardware stores to see if I ...

Re: Gauge Rebuilding

Thanks Gibber. On your site you listed specific temps and oil pressures in relation to the markings on the gauge faces, was hoping you could post something similar for our trucks when you're fiddling with your gauges. I'm sure they are pretty close to the same if not exactly the same but would be ni...

Re: new box power steering

I quickly photoshopped your image to show what I'm talking about....

Just oblong the mounting holes on the plate to account for possible variances in where the holes are drilled on someone's frame.

Make sense?

Re: new box power steering

Kurt, you're the man!!!!!!! You've already done more than you need to and I appreciate it but curious, any thoughts on slotting the bolt holes where the plate mounts to the frame to account for slight variances for different people's frames? Not sure if this would be an issue but just thinking a sli...

Re: Power brake booster

Not to hijack but had a somewhat pertinent question for the booster experts...

I have a 1970 D100 but mine did not come with a booster. If I bought just the booster will my existing master cylinder bolt to that? My master cylinder is a dual pot and has 4 mounting holes. Thanks in advance.

Re: '68 318 in '70 Oil Pressure gauge malf

It's easy to tell what you're getting also.... The oil switch for an idiot light will roughly the size of 10 quarters stacked up where as the sending unit for a gauge will be the width of say a half dollar and about an inch and a half tall. Sorry for my analogies. The best I could come up with this ...

Re: '68 318 in '70 Oil Pressure gauge malf

Mine did the exact same thing and it turns out that someone had installed the oil pressure switch for an idiot light when mine was actually a gauge. Installed proper oil pressure sending unit and now works as it should. On mine with the key in the run position I put a test light at the single wire t...
