Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
My timing is now set at 5* Before... You'd probably realize much better performance with your timing advanced significantly. Fuel blends have changed dramatically since your truck was built and require more "time" to achieve optimum combustion pressure. I'm just finishing up, today, the timing opti...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
great find how did it get out of wack how much more volume do you think it made I bought a 1970 D-200 just for the engine. It ran sooooo good, I didn't even do a tune up. I put in new freeze plugs and a timing cover gasket. That's all I did to that engine. So... what I'm saying is... that setting o...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
I got it fixed.... I found that the VENT VALVE on the carb was closed and the accelerator pump wasn't set correctly. It FIXED my problems!! I suppose it wasn't really a timing issue after all. :thinking Well, that isn't exactly true either. I had it moved all over the place and most likely just got ...

Yeah... why would the mirror attach to the bottom of the vent window? Weird!Wildergarten wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 1:56 pmPretty goofy looking West Coast mirror mounting.
BTW, I really do enjoy this thread. Thanks for the post!

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
The "318-11" cast into the block is not relevant to the 318-1 or 318-3 set forth in the service manual. If you check the specifications pages of the service manual, it will become obvious. The 318-1 was utilized in the smaller trucks, such as the D100. The 318-3 was utilized in larger trucks, such ...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
Looking at my engine I removed from a 1970 D-200 Camper Special. (My truck is a 1968) It has on the block after the 2536030 318-11 What does the 318-11 mean? Looking at the timing specs in the service manual, it says 318-1 gets 5*B and the 318-3 gets 12.5*B So, what does 318-11 mean? I've seen on po...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
Thanks for ALL the advice given here. I really appreciate this. Today, I thought I would check my vacuum advance. I thought it was working because I could "feel" it when I stepped on the gas. But, I suppose that was the weights pulling it around. Anyway, I pulled the hose and sucked on the end of i...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
A few pics to show my Carter BBD setup. These were taken before I cleaned it and rebuilt it a few years ago. Are the rods in the correct holes? I was wondering if that would affect the accel. pump action. The Vac. advance hose is connected to the bottom of the carb as you can see in the first photo....

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
Looking down the carb while running can be really bad if it backfires. Burned face, eyes, etc. Lucky if it only takes eyebrows and hair. Especially dangerous when you're pumping the throttle to diagnose problems. If you must, wear a full face shield. Drops of oil on the leather will be dissolved in...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
It is simple to determine if the exhaust crossover is plugged. With the engine at full operating temperature, you won't be able to hold your finger tip on the crossover. If you can, it is plugged. Yes, it is a remove intake repair. From your symptoms, I doubt this is your issue. I'll put my finger ...

Re: 1969 Sway Bar Bushings?
I googled that part number, but didn't come up with anything. Ah well... he actually just let me know he bought some aftermarket ones and had to trim some off the bottom and a smidge around the curve part using just a bench grinder. He said it was easy and they now fit and look exactly like the orig...

Hmmm.... that makes sense!!Wildergarten wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:38 pmThe taper is likely due to die casting. One would have a heck of a time getting the part out of the mold without it, the shrinkage of aluminum alloy as it cools being what it is.

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
OOPs, I forgot to say that I do NOT have power brakes with the vacuum assist. I haven't "fooled" with it today. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain... :pale But first I think I'll take off the top of the carb and manually push the accel pump down and just see what's going on. I didn't know that the bore ...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
Thanks guys, I'll check the base of the carb with some carb cleaner and see if that does anything. I'd rather rebuild my carb with a new kit rather than a China carb. My top gasket is not leaking gas OUT, but it is wet... so I would most likely need to replace that top gasket anyway. I didn't feel i...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
Well... to be honest, my truck has been mostly sitting and I really can't recall "if" it did this last year. I thought that "maybe" the accelerator pump may have dried out, shrunk or cracked? They are made of leather. Late last year when it started gas would overflow out the top due to the needle va...

Carter BB Accelerator pump question
1970 D-200 318 2 barrel Carter BB (or a BBD?) 3 speed manual transmission. Stumbles when I shift and then stomp on the gas, not quite racing, but "moving out". When stopped and the engine OFF, I can SEE the Gas SQUIRT both barrels into the carb when looking at it from above. Can the accelerator pump...
