Re: Tips on shipping an NP435 trans

Yes John, it was pretty much an entire pickup (missing a few pieces) but of course being in-pieces made it easier. The 2 pallets I made were odd shaped and long and Fastenal said they didn't care about shape and size as long as the load could be picked up by a forklift from the side of the load. The...

Re: Tips on shipping an NP435 trans

You have to ship "From" and "To" Fastenal stores that have the ability handle palletized loads (if you're using a pallet). Not all of their stores have that ability. My last shipment was a 5-speed transmission from the Los Angeles area to my home in Oregon. That was roughly $70. The 1937 Dodge picku...

Re: Clutch Return Spring

I found the spring and it's in place as it's supposed to be. I was simply looking for an extension spring (and in a different location) and not at all expecting a compression spring. I compressed the spring quite a bit more and the result was negligible in that no gain was made with pedal return (bu...

Re: Clutch Return Spring

Thanks PwrWgnDrvr. I thought this was likely although just wasn't sure. I'll see if I can find a couple of pictures in the build threads or this Driveline category. My slant6 / column shift 3-speed apparently didn't have a return spring or it was removed at some point. If it never came with one, hop...

Clutch Return Spring

Hey Fellas:

Just curious if any of the 61-70 trucks with hydraulic clutches, regardless of engine size, used a clutch return spring on the pedal assembly (not the return spring on the clutch release arm).

Thanks,

Re: Tips on shipping an NP435 trans

I've sent engine blocks, transmissions and a relatively complete 1937 Dodge pickup basket-case on custom pallets I made all via Fastenal. It's easy to take a regular pallet and cut it down, drain the transmission, strap it down and cover it with either thick cardboard or heavy plastic sheeting. Neve...

Occasionally Viper set-ups pop up for sale and some are reasonably priced.

Re: Hood hinge color ?

They are electrolytic zinc plated and may or may not have clear chromate over the top. Galvanizing is a hot dip process and does not use electrical current.

Re: 440 Swap started. I have a few questions.

The 426 came out in 1963 and is an RB block just like the 413, 440 and the RB version of the 383.

Re: 440 Swap started. I have a few questions.

Surely there is a picture or pictures of an early Sweptline with a 426 that might show what the factory did? Have you looked through the "members build threads" section?

" So I take it you pressed the flap assembly into the short piece extending out the body from the inside and simply joined the assembly to the tube going into the tank with a longer piece of hose? As a sealer, what did you use? Hardening aviation-grade Permatex?" Sorry, going from memory...after I c...

Re: Fuel leak out gas cap

Capture.GIF - Yes, in my haste, I mis-spoke about the nozzle hole. - I went with a press-fit and then used a sealer at the joint. Spot welding or plug welding again is dependent on the flapper you use. There really isn't anything at that location anyway to worry about as even in a spill there is a ...

Re: Fuel leak out gas cap

It's been a while Mark and I didn't take any pictures at the time. Also, what you end up having to do to adapt a flapper is highly dependent on the flapper you choose. My criteria at the time was to locate one that was beefy in terms of material and flapper return spring and that didn't force me to ...

Re: Fuel leak out gas cap

My 65 Series I Utiline had this issue as well. I solved the problem by going to a wrecking yard and getting a filler neck flapper valve from a newer truck. I just looked for one that had the most robust or durable design which as I recall was from an Isuzu pickup (domestic brand valves were pretty f...

Re: Broken Horn Switch Roller

Thanks PwrWgnDrvr. Understood. It just never dawned on me that an electrical "bridge" of this sort would be required for a horn but thinking through the design it makes complete sense. My brain was locked onto the wheel as a turn signal cancellation mechanism.

What is the function of the roller? Is this to cancel the turn signal based on rotation of the steering wheel?

Most steel wheels have a lead-in angle on the back of the lug holes that should accommodate the amount of shoulder sticking through.

Re: carpet

Kenny @ Exline has the strips in both mild steel and stainless steel. I bought a set and used them on my truck when I put in new vinyl flooring (I'm not a carpet in a truck guy but then again, I grew up with several vehicles that came with vinyl covered floors from the factory). http://www.exlinecus...
