Re: 4x4 question. (not sure where to put it)

I learned the hard way that if power is applied when the collar is partially engaged, it will mess up the collar and shaft splines. Like I said, on a budget, I'd lock the sucker up manually if necessary and leave it. In an emergency, you can remove the cover, remove the sliding fork, reverse it, man...

Re: 4x4 question. (not sure where to put it)

Hi, Skip I'm not sure I understand what you're saying...it has the Posi lock now, but needs a new cable, and the plan is to replace the cable until you get the EMS axleshaft? I have owned and been around Jeeps and Dodges of that era, and I would just eliminate the disconnecting junk like they did in...

Re: '70 Steering box rebuild attempt

I'd personally rather send my best box to powerwagon54 (bud thorp) but thats me. Mine has been great since having him rebuild a few years ago. I'm with you, talking to him. I have a pretty decent knowledge of this type of thing due to my trade, running a machine and welding shop, as well as the fac...

'70 Steering box rebuild attempt

I yanked my box and went through it last night, using robertbob's guide. I basically did a clean, rebush, repack, and adjust. http://www.sweptline.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=30487 The pitman shaft bushing was shot, and the shaft was a bit worn, making it feel vague, and I thought that was the m...

That old closed knuckle front axle probably won't hold up too well to those tires, probably break axle shafts/joints. I'd want a modern Dana 60.

Re: Minimum lift required for 38" superswampers on W200

I'm gonna bet 6" but I think you have the right idea, jack the whole thing up by the frame and measure to the corners of the fender openings...clearing the footwell or rear of the front fender might be the hardest.

Is this going to be more of a street cruiser, mostly flat ground mud bogger, or is it going to tend towards a rough terrain flexy suspension crawler?

Re: Non-Swept 70s van door handle question

Thanks We welded it last time and it broke after a year or two. I managed to pull the stub out by clamping it in a vise and carfully using a wedge on alternating sides. The stub has some retainer ridges stamped into it that I think I can reproduce 90* from the orginals and press it back in after we ...

Not a big deal really I enjoyed putting the truck together and enjoy bangin around in it with the 318. Embarrassed a ricer with it the other day, ha! I came across a good deal on a cummins truck and bought that so the 440 is back burner now until I have more time and money. What you got goin on thes...

Re: motorhome 440

I have my '77 440 for my D100 apart to rebuild before I install it.

The pistons aren't dished, the pin to piston top heights change.

Re: motorhome 440

Like Kim said, pistons. You can get on summit and otherp laces too I'm sure and see all the different pin heights for different compression ratios.

check out forabodiesonly.com forum big block section for some good low compression 440 threads.

Re: 4.0L in a Sweptie???

I think pretty much all I-6s tend to be inherently durable and long lived. Reckon that's why semis use 'em. I was just at the NHRA museum today and saw a 199ci rambler engine by Navarro for Indy. Destroked, stock otherwise, with twin turbos 105psi 700hp@6000rpm IIRC. My point being...put a little tu...
