Re: Conversion from single pot to dual pot brake master

Alright... now that I have the truck under a roof and I'm making progress on the parts truck, it's time to look at the conversion. The '67 parts truck has a power-assist dual-pot (and no reinforcement on the firewall that I saw). The front line splitter was bolted to the frame rail. Rather than loop...

Front fender removal

I was going to pop off the front fenders. After pulling all of the bolts I could find, they are still hung up. Do I have to take out the radiator and the front mounting metal? There are a couple of nut/bolts I'm going to have to "hot wrench" if I do. The fenders are loose, particularly towards the f...

Re: Windshield washer foot pump

It's a pretty good sized nut and it's on pretty tight. I hope I don't destroy the foot pump in the process of taking it off. As for your non-pumping situation... I'd pop off the hose and have someone pump the foot pump. You'll hear/feel the foot pump if it's good. Worst case scenario... get an elect...

Re: '66 Dodge D200 for towing a '67 Airstream

The interior was gutted (and most is in the basement). Because of the monocoque construction, the floor of the Airstream is an integral part of the structure. And since the floor was rotted in places, the only proper repair was a new floor. And since the shell had come off, it made sense to repair t...

Re: towing

I have a page I found showing the "OEM" towing specs. If you believe what "they" say, the D100 with the 318 is rated for 3500 pounds. Of course, the same page says I need the 4.88 rear on the D200 to pull 5000 pounds... so I think they are erring on the side of safety. Our '67 Airstream Overlander w...

Re: The Big Cross-Country Trek

I'll second the motion on the belts and hoses... they wait for a hot, long pull to fail.

Windshield washer foot pump

I was bumping along on the parts truck and noticed it had a rubber bag of washer fluid with the hoses still connected. I found the foot pedal and gave it squeeze... shoots pretty good. I'm going to roll it onto the project truck. Anything I need to know about getting the foot pedal out?

Ride

I had to move the project truck and the parts truck. Honestly, the project truck rides better, better steering, better handling, etc. Now, the parts truck has a huge flatbed that probably weighs 800 to 1000 pounds... which tames down the rear. But the project truck has new kingpins. I don't know, ma...

Re: '66 Dodge D200 for towing a '67 Airstream

I'm not an audio engineer nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night... but here's what I think I know about sound dampening in a vehicle. The primary issues with cab noise in the Sweptlines is noise from engine, running gear, roadway, wind, etc. The fix for this is sound barrier material, ...

Re: 62 d-200 slant six towing 68 valiant?

+1 on the trailer brakes. These old Swepty's stop better with a braking trailer than without. Trailer brakes also help prevent all kinds of mishaps. My best advice is use the brakes as if you had to drop a silver dollar in the jar every time you touch them. Use your engine and compression braking to...

Re: 62 d-200 slant six towing 68 valiant?

I grew up just south of the Canadian border in NW Montana. Our old D100 with the slant six would pull just about anything. I went to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, for a load of feed and the old Dodge was sitting on the axles on the way home. It wasn't fast getting up some of the grades, but it made it. What...

"The Dodge M-Series chassis was heavy duty frame used under various Class A motorhomes from 1968 to 1979. All M-Series chassis used a solid front axle with leaf springs, and Dana 60 or 70 solid rear axles with leaf springs. Frames were used by Winnebago, Champion, and several other RV manufacturers....

Gary Pavlovich has done some articles on builds including a poly stroker. There's also a pretty active Yahoo group on the poly. It's a long ignored engine that seems to be getting some love nowadays.

You might be looking for the cushion clamps per the link to JEGS above. All you need to know is the OD of your brake line and you're good to go. Good luck.

Re: 62 d-200 slant six towing 68 valiant?

That's how my little brother killed the six in my old D100. He banged it up at a keg party and the hood was jammed shut tight. He didn't want to explain what happened to the old man, so he just kept running it... and keeping the nose out of sight. Eventually, he ran it out of oil. My old man used to...
